Good eye.... about 7:00 on the first pic and 10:00 on the third.

Off to the side of the IP gear, between 7-10 o'clock, do not remember exactly, it is right next to one of the IP case holding bolts.

I think TST has a good picture.

thanks, i just checked and the pin is in!!!!!!! all the bolts are in as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very mysterious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????

Wow thats crazy. There must haev been something in the valvetrain that was causing resistance to the cam turning. Any bent pushrods?
Or maybe theres some misalignment + deflection in there that caused it? Since it broke right before the journal.
Theres gotta be something else that caused that. I cant imagine that would fail by itself.

If you didn't find the missing tooth in the timing cover, check the oil pan. I'd wager that the tooth and whatever caused it to break are both down there somewhere.

Canada, do you have the rest of the cam out yet? If for some reason it seized in the block, it could have snapped forward, and the tooth could have come out then.

Gawd, i hate to keep bringing these morbid thoughts to the table...........
