5spd DIED TODAY! 6 speed??
the 5 speed in the 2000 ate itself today, put it in reverse and started moving and it started popping and grinding. brought it in the driveway and second and third were making a BUNCH of noise, noises that should not come from any moving parts, ever. It made me feel sick.
Now I would REALLY like to put a six speed in but don't know where a good place to buy one is...can someone help me out with that? Oh and time is a HUGE factor as this is one of our main service trucks. I'll be driving my little 2500 out to florida and back this weekend if you know of someone between central cal and florida
PLEASE HELP!!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. As far as replacing your tranny with a 6-speed I'd recommend checking out Quad 4x4 - here's their web address. http://www.quad4x4.com
They have a very informative web site and also service and supply 5 & 6-speed trannies and parts. Without knowing more about the damage done to your tranny it's impossible to say whether it would be more cost effective to rebuild it using Quad's Torque-King upgrade shafts and gears or to bite the bullet and replace it with a 6-speed. I've read several reports from happy customers dealing with these folks. From what I read the 6-speed is a better built tranny, especially with regard to the overdrive unit and it's better suited to towing as it splits the gears between 3rd and 4th better so there's not such a gap or drop in RPM between gears.
Hope this helps some and good luck with your dilemma.

the 6 speed parade has been rained on. my dad decided to have a shop take a look at the 5 speed and it wasn't that expensive to fix and we REALLY need to be able to drive the truck this week...but we both still want to do the six speed swap, just not right away, maybe towards the end of the year.
but thank you guys very much for the replies, the information offered will be used, just not this week!
