2003 Fan Clutch

Hello, my fan clutch I think just died. The cable became loose and stopped the fan while I was driving. It stinks like burned brakes. Anyways, I have the rad and the overflow reservoir out now just not sure how to take out the fan clutch. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You'll need to buy or borrow a fan clutch wrench and have a friend help you. The 03 should be the same as an 06. Start by removing the 4 shroud nuts, this way you can get the fan out easier. While underneath, unplug the connector going to the clutch. Next, get a 1/2" breaker bar and pull a little more tension on the tensioner, this helps keep the fan pulley from slipping while you break the nut loose that holds the fan. It's going to be tight, and when it breaks, it's all at once, so watch your hands. So after you get it unscrewed off of the hub, pull it and the shroud out in one chunk. I believe it loosens to the right, but I can't remember.

I went to advance auto and got their fan clutch wrench that goes over two of the 4 fan bolts to hold it while you use a wrench on the nut. It worked out well.
