my 2001 started to act up yesterday. under load it would not accelerate but would idle fine. i get her home and changed the fuel filter today. after changing the fuel filter it started but shut right off and won't restart. any suggestions?

 

Do you have gages? If not, you need to find some way to check your fuel pressure to the VP44. Another quick check is to crack a couple of injector lines and see if you have any fuel flowing. If you don't have flow, it's probably the injector pump or the fuel pump. Good luck.

 

Cycle the key 3 times and check for codes, and hope you don't see a 1693 and 0216. but I've got a hole in a donut to bet on it

 

how was the filter? it could be that the filter was giving you some grief and after you changed it you did not get all the air out.

bump the key and crack the return line to bleed the system, it should start after that, you might have to crank on it a bit more than normal to get it to light the first time.

do cycle the key 3 times and see what you get for codes.

 

when mine did this it was a bad lift pump of course it happened the exact same way put a gauge on it and go from there.

Vote 2 for the lift pump. Mine did something similar. Started and sucked fuel out of filter and shut down. Change LP and keep running till you have to replace the VP44.
