Unhappy 2001 Cummins Smoked to death!

I have a 2001 dodge dually. It started blowing black smoke yesterday that gradually got thicker. Truck seemed to be running fine. Later on the black smoke turned to white, the engine had a little knocking sound and was spitting and sputtering out the exhaust. I shut it down and now it won't start. What's my problem? I'm thinking injector pump, am I right? and how much is that going to set me back? Please help!!!

Welcome to the site. When you get a chance fill out you signature in the user cp with more information on your rig.
Check for error codes in the odomerer window. Key on-off-on-off-on and watch for the PCM codes, then it does the ECM codes. Post what codes you see. Also did the check engine light come on?

check your oil level, we're lookin for diesel in the oil. If an injector stuck open that might cause it. What codes do you have?

A 2001 should be able to "see" the codes with a three key on-off trick.

That's the code letting you know there is a code.

You'll need a code scanner to find out what the hidden code is.

You can borrow a Smarty from someone, or take it to the Dodge Dealer and let them scan it.

A quick yahoo search on P1693, Dodge yielded a few hits. Here's one (from a '99 CTD 3500):

P1693 - DTC Detected in PCM; P1693 - Indicates a fault code has been generated in the companion engine control module.

KY, is your truck modified at all? eg bombed etc?? Like it was mentioned first off, fill out your sig file with any and all mods so folks can help you better.

Boost leak? Try checking for leaks with a PVC pipe cap with an air chuck screwed through it.. pressurize to 30psi max and listen for air leaks.
