2001 47RE Slipping in 1st and 2nd
How difficult was it to install your Transgo kit? I've got one sitting on the shelf waiting for my next fluid change and I'm not sure I have all the instructions for doing it right. Did you get a video with your kit?
...Sorry...that gasket is the best thing to come along since machined valve cover surfaces. I've had the pan off my truck at least 3 times and the trans pan off my race car about seven times. They seldom leak and I simply retorque them back to 120 inch pounds.

It's fixed!!!
I got some resolution today. I got everything bolted back up and filled with with fluid. Somehow I managed to put in about 9 1/2 quarts of ATF+4. I kept cycling through the gears and checking the level in neutral. I was a little surprised at just how much fluid it took. The shift kit really cleaned up the slow shifts, and completely eliminated the shudder. I have my line pressure cranked up pretty high, about 70 psi, so I know that's helping.
First gear is still a little sluggish on takeoff. I would think that one could put the pedal to the floor from a stop and get the tires to break loose, but maybe I'm expecting too much. I also read the 2000.5 to 2003's have a 1st gear torque management system that could be the reason that I'm not able to spinn the tires from a stop. Second seems to be decent. It's the same as it was before the "problems"
I did readjust the bands and replace the filter, so atleast I know the maintainence is done for a while. Overall I'm happy with the new performance, but I need to tweak it some more. I would like to get it set up so I can break the tires loose without power-braking (more like "power-breaking"), but again maybe I'm asking too much.
I did have a rather interesting idea that seemed to work quite well. I read somewhere that person was complaining about how much he spent on transmission fluid since he had to drop the pan a couple of times to get the valvebody how he wanted it. So, I thought I would go out and buy a dedicated, clean transmission fluid drain pan. I could then drain the fluid into the pan (one of those types that are sealable with a pour spout), through a paper towel, and simply pour it back into the transmission once the pan was back on. There are plenty of opportunities to get dirt in the fluid, so just make sure you clean the pan, bolts, and surrounding transmission components before you drop the pan. It saves you about $30 everytime you drop the pan.
Roysleight,
The kit was a lot more involved than I thought it would be. I've had the VB off twice now making little tweaks. I did do the TC lock-up mod. I think I'm going to "undo" that one. The lock-up is so hard now that it feels like the street and strip kit in my Camaro. The only difference is that the Camaro is light enough to break the tires loose when it locks. If you have done valve body work before, it's not too bad. I was surprised at just how seperate adjustments can be made on a Torqueflite. I did get a video, but Transgo ackknowleges that the video is dated. So, the video is only good for pointers. I'd like to convert the video to an mpeg or avi and post it here, but I need to call Transgo first. I would think they would be willing to allow something like that, since the video is outdated anyways.

Sub, I'd really like to know what drill sizes and springs you ended up using for your VB kit. The instructions give a range to use but I'd like to get it right the first time. Anything you can give me will help. Thanks.
