2001 24v dodge diesel auto big time missing

The other day went into town and as soon as I pulled out onto highway notice trucky missing big time..It was really bad as the rpm's got higher. Took home and changed fuel filter. No changed. Checked for codes and got p1693 and po460. I've been searching for idea's on what the problem is and haven't really came up with what it could be.This truck has 130,000 on it. I've always change the oil and other filters on time. I did have a new fuel pump put into it about three years ago. Its wierd because it only happens when driving, when its parked and I raise the rpm's it doesn't miss..Please I hope this is something simple..If anyone can help please let me know..Thanks so very much..

0460 means that your fuel gauge don't work right. Use a scanner on it, alot of the time the key trick don't pick up all codes. Any other symtoms (white smoke, etc.)? Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Did your fuel filter canaster fill right back up?

[No white smoke or any smoke, yes fuel canister did fill back up. Took it to a mechcanic today he said its the lift pump. He said a new one is $160.00. I hope he is right. I read somewhere if I keep the truck full of diesel then I wouldn't notice the problem so bad. Do you think this would be true

Run with a bad lift pump and you will guarantee yourself of the need to buy a new injection pump. The only source of cooling for the VP44 injection pump is the fuel, restrict the fuel flow and the delivery valve fails in short order.

Ya I agree I think I will not drive it until I get the new lift pump. Also wanted to know is there any other fuel filter besides the one. I've seen that there might be some screen somewhere. Is there anytype of filter in the tank itself. One more thing with the price of diesel being over four dollars a gallon I often use red diesel or off road can that be harmful to the truck. Also seen on other sites people putting oil in the diesel. Would anyone say thats good or bad?[/I]

If your filter filled back up it is working some at least. That's why you need a in-cab pressure gauge. There is a screen on the pickup tube (in the tank). farm fuel won't hurt your truck, but the DOT and IRS will hurt you wallet. I tried the waste oil once. clogged up my filter right off the bat and dropped my FP by 1/2. If you strained it good first, maybe, but not me.
