06CTD Fuel Filter Change
This is my first post so bear with me. Today I changed the fuel filter in my 2006 2500 SLT 5.9L Cummins TD. Added 2' clear 3/4"id hose to the drain hose and all drained fine. My filter came from Genos and it is a Fleetguard Premium FS19800E for '00-'07 5.9L. I removed the filter cap and the filter stayed in side. I changed out the o-ring and used diesel to coat it. I removed the old filter and cleaned out the filter housing. Here is the problem, when I went to place the new filter on the cap, the new filter has a solid top, and the hole in the bottom. I the cap there is a round disk inside the cap within the filter locking teeth. In the middle of this disk is a hump, which fit in the hole of the old filter. The new filter would not fit in the cap. I checked and made sure the new filter was the right one (FS19800E). I took the disk out of the cap and the filter fit but there was a little slack in it ( where the teeth hold it in) but was secured. I put it in the filter housing and it felt like it seated fine and the lid went on good and snug. I primed it and the truck started just fine, seems to run better now. Is it alright to run with out this disk in the cap, and is this the right filter for this truck.
Thanks for any feedback. I sure have learned a great deal for all of you.

I just changed my 06 filter and I don't understand what you are talking about. I think you might need a new cap from Dodge, you snap the flat side of the filter in the cap and then drop it in. If yours is not like this you have something wrong.
Welcome to DTR, Engineer31. Its a great place to read up on your CTD and get advice. Click on the "User CP" up on the dark bar above and then on "Edit Signature". Fill out your signature so we know each time, what you are driving.
This makes me think the old filter had a hole on both ends, eh?
This 'disk' is a part that broke out of the old filter. Mostly because you were attempting to put the new filter in without removing the part of the old filter that broke off and stayed in the lid.
The filter does fit a little bit loose. Save the old filter and the disk, no telling what bypassed your old broken filter and was sent downstream to the injectors.
If you search DTR for places to pick up the right filter, you will find Geno's mentioned a lot. They have a 4/2/1 box with 4 oil, 2 fuel and 1 air filter for a great price, delivered to your door. (no, I'm not from Geno's Garage)
Relax and enjoy your CTD.
