checking codes on 06ctd

My check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago and stayed on for 1 day. I took it in to the dealer for the "tick" and had them supposedly check the computer. they denied having any codes. the light was off by the time it got to the dealer. NOw the light is back on and I turned my key 3 times and left in the run positon and the odometer went blank, said done, and the engine light flashed 10 times! what does that mean. the only mod to the truck is the muffler has been removed some time ago. Stock program and cat remain.

Also any suggestions on the tick. local dealer just blew it off. sounds like a lifter pecking to me mainly on deceleration?

thanks in advance

The tick might be a sticky lifter, Ive got a buddy with an 05 thats doing the same thing.

Mine got a check engine light, but never went away, wound up being a fuel rail pressure sensor, but a reflash fixed it.
