05 wont start
05 wont start
I'm trying to help my buddy out, he bought a 05 qc swb ctd that had been wrecked so we tried to start it today an it wont hit a lick. I pushed the trip reset an turned the key thinking I would get some codes but it turned out it was just firmware versions i guess. Do these trucks have some kind of shut down that when they get hit does the computer shut them down so the fuel pump dont spray. we checked the fuses an we have power at the fuse to the fuel pump an the fuse is good but once we get to the connector at the cab its showing we dont have no juice. any help tips is greatly appreciated.
I did a quick search for Automatic shut down and there was one link that talked about this feature in the PCM. I remember seeing an old link that someone had problems with the truck shutting down after it was lurching.
I think you are on the right track but can't help you further with a 12 valve brain.
Others will chime in.

It was hit on the drivers side. It was hit hard enough to bend the frame. Is there some kind of computer on the engine cause what looks like a square box with some plug ends has been hit hard enough to bend the edge on it. Thanks for the replys.
Chrysler's had an auto shut down relay since they had computers , but if the computer is damaged thats a big problem to get over with an electronic truck , the computer fires the injectors , runs the pump ect. , most of the time they seem to hide the shutdown relay in the passenger side dash .
The box is right on the driver side of the engine it has 2 plugs running to it. The truck will start on ether so its firing. I dont think it is getting power to the fuel pump. Everything works overhead, headlights, cluster, everything it just wont run. But that leads to another question, none of the gauges move when you turn the key on. Shouldnt they move some when you turn the key on? We hooked up a computer to see if it had any codes an didnt have any.

We thought about it but we didnt know how much voltage it would handle. Do you think it would hurt the pump? Also the fuel gauge is on empty when the tank is almost full, shouldnt the gauge read with the key on?
Well, it's a 12VDC pump so it'll work on battery voltage.
We already know there's another (possibly related) issue with the dash/gauges.
Eliminate the obvious first...
Your task will be far easier if you have the OEM wiring schematics!

And unless you want even more problems "DO NOT USE ETHER" as it will create major problems especially if the grid heaters are working, it might go KaBoom and do more damage. Find out if you can get the fuel pump working then go from there, Is the fuel filter damaged, are the fuel lines damaged, is the wiring to the in tank pump damaged and once you have eliminated those items go from there. The fuel pump only gets short voltage till the engine starts, it is not a constant voltage.
Oh the code trick is key on/off 3 times and on the third time to leave ignition on, the odometer will display any codes and a final of p-done, but if you do not have any dash display that option might not be available for you. Check all wirring connections and plugs under the hood looking for something loose, broken or shorted.
