04-2500 automatic/ shifting slip and noise

My 04 has 150,000Km on it. Mostly highway driving. Minimum hauling. I have just noticed that from a dead stop when accelerating the transmission seems to hesitate (slip) slightly before engaging. Is this normal? It was never there before. What should I do? HELP! 2nd problem; when there is a load on the truck and I am accelerating, when the transmission goes into it's final gear (4th I presume) there is a clunking noise. Definitely scary. Any advice?
Thanks
Mannie

Have you checked your tranny fluid level?

Converter slip on a stock 48RE is normal.

Sounds like you're hearing either the OD lockup clutch or the TC lockup clutch engaging - how noticeable is the "clunk"?

Have you made any changes recently, such as turning down the stereo volume?

Please fill out your signature, so we know more about your truck.
