02 2500 automatic - Engine noise level

I have a 98 (early 12 valve) and a low mileage (33000) ;02 24 valve. Why is the 02 engine noise level in the cab so much louder? i can't find any differences in insulation or holes in the firewall...etc They are both 2500 slt short beds. Also. does anybody know where they hide the harness for the trailer brake wires etc if the truck was not equipped with trailer package? (02)Thanks in advance

I can't answer the trailer harness question since I don't know the answer to it. The engine noise one I can. The 24V is well known for being noiser than the 12 valve. I think it has something to do with it having 2x more valves and injection timing.

Thanks. I was afraid it was "nature of the beast". I guess I am having a hard time parting with the 12 valve, 188000 and runs like its brand new.....

How about the hood blanket?

My 2002 doesn't have one, so your's most likely doesn't, but the 98 should.

phox, I had one on my 01 and when I took it off I didn't notice any difference in interior noise. I think it's just the nature of the beast. My buddy's 12v is infinitely quieter inside than mine.

The louder noise comes from the direct injection, i believe the 12 valve has a differant type injection.

Nope. They still had direct injection. The 24V has the injection underthe valve cover, dead center of each cylinder. The 12V has them out side the valve cover on the drivers side of the engine.
