02 Won't start
02 Won't start
Truck in my sig. I'm getting plenty of fuel to the canister and fuel pressure is normal. No codes. Earlier this week I had a 0463 (Fuel Level Sensor 1 High) that cleared itself. I have no idea what would cause that code or what it means.
Two weeks ago I put on a Walbro 392 that's pulling fuel through the disconnected in tank pump. Pressure has been 12 idle 7 WOT. The new pump was wired to a relay triggered by the in tank hot wire. For some reason after a week it wouldn't trigger the walbro relay so I wired it to the key. This is the only mod I've done to my truck in months.
My problems started when I discovered a fuel leak at the gauge line coming off the bottom of the canister. Tightened it up and went for a drive to make sure the leak was fixed and it was but I noticed it stumbled a little at WOT. When I got home it wouldn't start again. It's dark so I haven't cracked the injectors.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hate to see this on an 02', that's my truck
As far as the p0463 this is GM's explanation, should be the same concept as Dodge since it is obdII
"The fuel level sensor is device used to determine the level of fuel in the tank. The PCM applies an ignition voltage to the sensor. The sensor varies the voltage based on the level of fuel in tank. The sensor resistance is high when the tank is full, and the PCM senses a high signal voltage. As the fuel level in the tank decreases, the sensor resistance drops, and the signal voltage at the PCM is pulled low. The PCM uses the fuel level input run certain system tests."
We find 99.9% of the time with this code that it is a problem with the fuel level sensor itself. GM's contacts fall off and then the sensor does not contact the grid good causing erratic readings/voltages.
As far as the no start....only thing I can think is what you are going to try, crack the injectors and see that it is getting fuel. If no other codes are present for this I would think something mechanical as the computer sees that all is well. Maybe someone will chime in with better info.

Thanks for the help dodgeguy. I thought maybe the level gauge was lying to me so I put 6 gallons of fuel in it last night and it registered on the gauge so who knows what's up with that code.
This morning I made sure there's plenty of fuel to the VP. I cracked the injectors but no fuel is coming out
The batteries are worn down from so much cranking so I'll let them charge for a few hours and see what happens.
I hope my VP isn't dead. It's hard to beleive it would die so hard it won't push any fuel at all. Plus it's got less than 7000 miles on it
IF it is dead this will be the fourth VP this truck has had in 90000 miles.
Geez, I'm really bummed out!

I'm no VP44 expert, but four in 90k miles would have me looking elsewhere for the cause of so many failures.
Or, maybe it's just your bad luck to get crummy rebuilds. I hope that's not the case.

air in the fuel lines....that can be a booger. Some bleed out better than others. Glad to here you got her going......vp pumps scare me!
That's alright though, Cummins is going to take care of the school buses and such....
ohhhh, us??????
Maybe this
should be directed at DaimlerChrysler?

You'd think a giant car maker like DC would be able able to come up with a decent lift pump...oh wait they had one for the 12V's and they decided to fix it. I wonder if the guy that decided to put an eltric pump on still has his job?
