you guys with stacks
what is the reason that almost all of the trucks with stacks, the stacks are almost never higher then a few inches above the cab.
This is just my opinion.. But, stacks have to be done right to look good. A single stack has to be in the corner of the bed....not in the middle or just off to the side. Duals should be in the corners also but don't look as bad if they are toward the middle. I think anything 6" and up looks hideous and it's just not proportioned to our truck size. And yea, they should be kept close to the roof height...or the highest part of your vehicle. I have a BackRack with a amber lightbar and If I was putting stacks on it, my stacks would be about 8" above the roof line to meet the top of the lightbar... so it kind of depends..
Here is a few pics of mine when I had stacks
Just see the tops of the tips.

Barely higher then the cab.

Ya its a bit higher then the cab, But thats what I get when my Truck driver brother helps out on the install.

My stacks are 6" above the roof.
It kinda depends your stack model also.
Or what do you think about guys?

Mine are 36" Bull-haulers but I lift the Y-pipe on the bed about 3.5".
I think they look good when they come over the cab, and over the bedsides as well. But I have to admit that Bull-Haulers are purely a dually thing.
I think that the stacks could be a little higher than a 5th wheel Rv if you have a cab wind deflector. Oh, And you never take that 5th wheel of your truck so no one sees it behind the truck.

well that explains why i see a lot of them like that. i am the opposite i think the cab high stacks look silly because who wants all that noise plus it blows smoke all over the trailer. a think about a foot above the cab is adequateand dual does look better then single and in the middle looks funny, but then again i run big trucks too.

I had a guy tell me once that if I ever got stakes make sure I only install 1 because everybody knows that the Cummins is only a six banger. Gee, I wonder what all those semi's are?
Here's my 7" single, in the corner, and a couple of inches above the cab roof line. Everybody has an opinion, but mine is the only one to matter to me about my own truck. And I like the way it is. No offense meant to anyone. Lots of nice trucks out there with and without stacks.
It is a matter of ones own opinion. I agree with Erska anything bigger than 7" look better on duallys. As for the height I think they should at least be high enough so they don't cover the back of the cab with smoke and why would you want to hide them like that? Why put them on if people can't see them from every angle? Seems silly to me, I don't know how far above the cab mine are.
