When I finish my jeep project I want to start a drag Diesel project...I already know what CAR!! I am going to put the CTD in but what I don't know is what CTD would be the best drag swap??
I thought it would the old 12v but the way the new CR's are preforming I am beginning to think a CR swap would be best
what are yall's thoughts on this????

A 2nd gen 12 valve will give you the simplest engine with great power. You won't need to wire ANYTHING. Put a pull cable shutoff on it and you have no need for an alternator or a battery, you can use a jump box to start it. Year doesn't matter too much, once you start messing with plates, injectors and DV's the original HP rating of the pump goes out the window.

I agree with wanna on this one. Go for the 12v for the simplicity. If you wanna swap in a CR engine your gonna need all the wiring harness's, computers, etc.

Well IMO it would be the 12v, after watching an 809HP run @ the NC Dyno Day today .

PM John_P... hes one of the admins.

He told us all about his truck...

It was so much I can't remember any of it.

All I know is that he had water/meth injection in a toolbox in the bed, thought that was cool .

Here's the vid:

No, they specified the 2nd gen 12v's which would be from '94 thru early '98. The 1st gen 12vs had the VE pump - you want the P-pump.

I would go for a 24V with a P7100 conversion. 02 block so no 53 block issues.
No wiring issues, and it would breath easier than the 12V.

If you want to go with a CR engine, you get an engine from a medium duty truck. The wiring is MUCH simpler. Connect battery power & ground, ignition, a couple of warning lamps, and a throttle. Everything else is on the Cummins side.
Chrysler makes a mess out of the Cummins controls.

please tell me about this P-pump conversion!
are you saying more valves= more air....or is there something else about the 24v that makes it breath easier??

The P-pump conversion is nothing new or easy. As far as I have seen, it requires swapping the front gear housing, cam gear, fab up injection lines and a lower support bracket for the pump. I am sure others will chime in with more details.
Basically, the P7100 is the best way to make big HP. Its like the Holley carb of the diesel world. Lots of tuneability built into it.
And of course extra valves means better breathing. Especially with high boost and RPMs.

So what makes the 24v breath better? sounds like the old 12v with a p-pump would be easier then a p-pump conversion on a 24v??
and can the 12v head be opened up to breath easy?
would a 24v head fit/work on a 12v block??

Edit- Hey you added that last line after I posted
so it is just the valves.....
