For the MAJOR power you are going to want to put a P 7100 cummins in the truck instead of the VE pumped cummins

CHET:

If you are planning on building the truck for sledpulling I would recommend a 96'-98' Dodge 3500 Dually and if you can't live with a dually AT LEAST a 2500 Long Bed. Also, Phil is right, stick with the Cummins 12 valve engines that have the P-7100 Bosch Fuel Pumps. No way can a VE pumped Cummins 12 valve keep up with a P-7100 Fuel pump.

The plus to a dually is whether its an auto or a 5spd you get the D80 no matter what .My vote goes for a '97 reg. cab dually with a 5spd and a stack through the hood, because everyone knows the reg. cab duallys look the best .

As stated

96-98 five speeds, longer wheelbase for better balance, duals for rear traction, and 215 pump for fuel.
