what year 12 valve?
what year to look for in a beater with less than 200k miles to turn into a sled puller? Motor wise I want a 12valve

Do you want to pull and really compete, or just do it for fun? The reason I ask is because those that really compete generally have custom built p-pumps, so it really doesn't matter what you start with...it'll wind up being a core anyway. Look for a 5-speed---it'll have the D80. The 70 won't handle big power.

It's gonna take more money to sled pull with a VE pump than it will with a P... But it would look sweet. I love the first gens.
How competetive do you want to be? As mentioned you will want the D80 that came with the manual trucks, and if you arent wanting to be one of the BIG boys, a 215 pump will take you pretty far with some bench work. It should take you about as far as a stock bottom end at least...

Somebody told me it was redneck to add stacks, I just grinned and said "Who says its bad to be a redneck, hmmm?" Just remember, if stacks mean I am a redneck, then it is just about cherry red.
