Having bought a used truck and then spent a lot getting it running right, I would look for any evidence that it had every had any aftermarket performance stuff put on it and run the other way if it had. I would look for way more wear on the rear tires than on the fronts as another indicator of something treating it like a race car. I would check with Dodge to verify that none of the warranty had been cancelled for any reason. You've got 30 days after purchase to transfer it, don't forget!

Regardless of what you think of the performance mods, I think that having them is an indicator of a risk that the engine, or tranny has been pushed beyond its design limits.

Welcome Wildcast, here's what a quick search yielded on the difference between SO's and HO's: (HP, Tq, and tranny's differend in some of them)
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ne+differences

Like it was said above, if it was me looking, I'd take great care in looking for a truck that hasn't been abused and that has its warranty intact. There are LOTS of good trucks out there, but you don't want to find out the expensive way that you purchased a hand grenade.

if i could do it all again, the only thing different about my truck purchase would be to find one with a manual instead of the auto. other that that my 01 24v 4x4 is just what i wanted.

If I had it to do over again, Here's what I'd do!

Cruise the whatever-gen forum you plan on buying. Then I'd watch the classifieds of said forum. When I found the truck I liked from the member I trusted, I'd buy said truck from said member. Because you can bet your last pair of clean underwear that almost anyone on this forum takes REAL good care of their truck (the older the truck the more that is true!) And, if you buy a truck from a member here, the better you're chances of it being Bomb'ed. Which, is of course a good thing!

Good luck!
