Came on in my 99 and had so much water it shut the truck down. The station I use to buy fuel at kept too much fuel in their water tanks. Don't buy there any more.
Came on in my 89 but the connector was wet.

Had a 7.3 quit on the road once. Cold as ......... was driving down the road, light came on, and it quit about 15 seconds later. Towed to my shop, put in the heat overnight, replaced fuel filter (it had lots of water in it) put anti water stuff in the tank and was fine. Only time (knock on wood). I try to buy from reputable places, and drain the thigiemajig every so often. It is due now actually. Be right back....

Only happened once to my family. Early 1980's with my Dad's 300D Mercedes. So much water in the fuel we ended up draining the tank. 30yrs of owning diesel cars, pickups and tractors.

45 years of diesel trucks and tractors. The only time I've ever had water in fuel was from a portable truck bed tank that somehow leaked rain in. It ended up in the tank pump's filter and caused no problem. Never any water in the Dodges, I quit worrying about opening the filter drain years ago.

In my Dodge, no. When I drove school buses, the ones with the DT466 came on to let you know it was cold and rainy - just in case you hadn't noticed.

Used to drain LOTS of water out of the big trucks, like 4 to 8 ounces per day. I just drained the new Dodge (it has 8500 miles) into a bottle and looked at it and couldn't see any.
Water in fuel is an unavoidable fact of life, especially in underground tanks. The EPA is responsible for some of it because of vapor recovery which allows warm, moist air to come into contact with cooler surfaces. Why the water separator on these Cummins engines doesn't seem to trap any is something of a mystery to me.

I tried to drain mine every fillup like the manual says when I first got it.
Couldn't ever get anything to come out (water or fuel) so I gave up.
I drain the cannister into a bottle each filter change and let it sit to see if anything seperates out, never seen so much as a bubble of water.
I've never seen the WIF light come on other than during self test (key on prior to start).
I guess I'm lucky to get fuel from good sources. (knock on wood)

Never. Try and buy fuel at only couple places when at home, but when I'm on the road I try to stop at truck stops, there I know they roll over alot of fuel.
Don't drain mine anymore, heard of too many guys lever sticking open and not resealing causing leakage.
