Want to buy a dual fuel filter setup

I know a lot of guys put the dual oil filters on their engines, but what about a dual fuel filter? It's actually not for my Cummins in my Dodge, but for my Volvo diesel in my boat. The only place that sells this setup charges an arm and a leg (cuz it's a boat--break out another thousand)--and looking at pics of the unit it appears to just be two housings attached together.

Does anybody know of anyplace I can ask about getting these parts for just an arm?

have you looked at the set up on the boat , you should already have a dual filter set up , most Volvo's I have seen have a primary and secondary filter mounted close to the inj. pump. any set up you do install , make sure you do a restriction test to make sure your not starving the engine for fuel.

The boat currently has a racor 500 for the fuel filter. There is a last chance filter near the engine (smaller filter). I'm looking to replace the racor with this setup. I'm not worried about the filters causing too much restriction--they are way overkill for my application--I just want to make my motor last forever. The racor's have a tendancy to leak air and don't filter as well as this setup. Plus the fleetguard filters are relatively cheap, and I can pick them up when I buy the filters for my truck as well.

Fleetguard FF5013 is primary (30 micron)
FS1000 is secondary (10 micron/removes water)

you can get the houseing from grainger, mcmaster-carr or good hydraulics shop. the filters can probably be gotten there too, along with monitor guages.

Go to a tractor juck yard you should be able to get one thier fairly cheap off an old combine or tractor engine and not much could be wrong with it.

This is a Racor 6120. This setup costs $138. It is very large and I would expect the filter to last a lot longer than a stock filter. It comes in 2, 10 or 30 microns, flows 120 GPH with 3/8" NPT fittings. You could put 2 of them together. Came with the see thru bowl (bottom), 1 filter and the housing/mount.

That the problems that bothers Cummins , people add on fuel filters on the suction side and not even think about the restriction on the system. you start adding low micron fuel filters on the suction side and you start having low power situations. on the press. side is no problem.

My filter is setup like tank -> filter -> lift pump -> vp44 so I guess that is the suction side, although I plan on putting the filter AFTER the lift pump in the future because I feel like it makes more sense to have the last thing before the VP44 (the expensive pump, not the $75 one) being the filter. Also dunno what the lift pump might introduce into the system.

My fuel pressure is measured at the VP44 right before the inlet and is 15 PSI at idle and goes down to about 12 PSI at WOT.

I however do not have multiple filters, that big mama is the only one. The stock junk is gone.

If you look at what those filters GPH flow rating is, you would see that they could easily handle the load. I'm sure not all setups are this way... but this one is.

That setup in the pic looks to me like a filter and then a water seperator, very similar to the FASS system I have on my 99 (filterwise anyway).

I bought one of these on E-bay and it's really great! Uses the Fleet guard FS 1006 or FS 1216. I'm putting mine between the aftermarket fuel pump and tank. Keeping the stock filter in place also. He has two of them for bids now and could be coupled using a piece of 1/2" pipe.

I was at Atwoods today (www.atwoods.com) if there is one in your area.

They had fairly small spin on filters for $10 and the housing for about the same. They were fuel. The filters were about the size of the ones used on Chevy 350 cid engines (just a reference I know)

The ebay link was almost exactly what I was looking for. The ones I want are for different filters though (those won't work for the filters I want to use--I called fleetguard to check).

I think I found out the part number I need--3930618S. Looks like I can get it for $28/ea (need 2).

If anybody finds a link to a place selling them, please feel free to still post it.
