using GM gas tanks ????

so I"m finally freed up enough to get to my Cummins swap, into my 87 Chevy K30, and I need to know:

Is there any reason I CAN"T use the stock tanks, assuming I drain them properly??? what to do about the in-tank pumps since the Cummins has the mech. pump? gut them???

anyway I'm excited ******, I"ve been waiting nearly 2mos to get into this, and I'll post pics somewhere.

thanks in advance for the help I'm gonna need! LOL

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't use a Chevy gas tank.

Since we have the mechanical lift pump on the side of the block anyways, I don't think that an in-tank lift pump would be anything but a liability. So I'd take those out or just bypass them.

Does that particular truck have a narrow filler neck so as not to be able to get a diesel pump nozzle into it? Just a thought? Might have to change that.

How exactly do you change that? My second filler door has that problem...

on Chevy's you can unbolt the filler neck from the body, and undo the hose. I will probably just bend up a new sheetmetal funnel and ghettofab it on, rather than making some kind of step down hose adapter to the tank.

Or you could just find a truck of the same year that had a diesel engine and rob the filler neck, should bolt up to the tank.

Just be sure the gas tank is galvanized metal. Diesel will leach out ? (not sure what compound) and is hard on the fuel system. I heard of this problem with galvanized funnels and farm tractors.
