towing question?

I'm new to diesels and I've got a 2004.5 2wd automatic quad cab with 373 gears.. I'll be towing about 3000lbs for about 400 miles tomorrow and my question is should I use overdrive or not? What are some signs that I should take it out of overdrive other than frequent down shifting..

Thanks Rob

Rob,
I have a 2005 2500 (see my sig) 610 and can tell you towing 3k will be like there is nothing back there. You will have to look back periodicaly to make sure the trailer is still there. I tow 11k and never have had a problem with the tranny searching for gears. Most time I stick it in gear and go without even using the Tow/Haul switch.

We just towed the 11K 3500 miles without any tranny issues and no problems. Go out and tow it and you will see what I am talking about.

I was going to tell you the same thing. 3000 lbs isn't really anything to tow with a dodge diesel.

Boy you guy's weren't kidding! The load turned out to be about 4500 lbs and coming back through the mountians of chattanooga TN at 70 mph it never even gear down out of overdrive WOW! My old dodge gas burner struggled up those hills pulling less weight...

Thanks Rob
