General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Story time

What is it with some people??? I went yesterday to go get my Christmas tree. When I pulled into the place where we get our tree (cut your own) a younger guy (about 20 or so) that works there pulled in with a Chevy gasser pick-up. He comes over to me and asked "How do you like your diesel?" I told him I love it and we discussed the pulling ability of them. He said "yea, I have an '04 Sooper Doody over at the house. I pull a 34' GN loaded with hogs all over the country." I asked if it had the 6.oh no in it and he said "Yep. Best engine out there!" He asked me what kind of mileage I get loaded and I said 12-14 MPG. He then proceeds to tell me that he "pulls the GN at 75 MPH and gets 16 MPG doing it" I asked what he gets empty and he said 22-24 MPG. Do these guys think we are so stupid that we believe them? Or is it they are just trying to convince themselves? I have a feeling he gets 16 MPG empty and was to ashamed to tell me what he really gets loaded. Even my 16 year old daughter laughed at his story!!

I was reading somewhere regarding Ferd trucks and saw this " the 03s had 1 in 3 failure, 04s were a 1 in 5 failure and 05s were now a 1 in 10 failure, but still to early to tell for sure" this was from a Ford service manager I belive. Then others stated but there still the best truck around. Is that what you get for $40k + these days?
BTW, if anyone is interested we have a horse than can ride a bicycle and talk. We`ll sell him for 20k if yer interested

Hey, shoulda asked him why Dodge still has the same size engine block for the past 16 yrs! Coincidence? No, not really. That loyalty disease causes blindness and stubborness.

I think the fuel economy stories are similar to the old song about "my dogs better than your dog". Many people tend to stretch the truth so they have the better truck.

Seems to me,

a 6.0 from my experience has alot of trouble pulling at low rpms, and naturally at Hi RPMS the motor will use more fuel so to say, So this will mean less MPG, The only way that i buy that mileage would be so to say if the truck was rolling downhill in neutral, and 3/4 of the terrain he was traversing was downhill, other than that, at best i would believe 12-14 with 3.55 or 3.73, with a 4.10, i doubt it.. It dont seem formidable... but it was just the laugh i needed for today..
