From the article:
Con-way spokesman Gary Frantz said the maximum speed of the trucks has been cut from 65 mph to 62, a move that should cut fuel consumption by 3.2 million gallons a year.

Good, it wasn't just my imagination. I've been driving 65 out here (speed limit is 70) to increase my mileage and I thought that it seemed like at least the truckers were driving slower than usual.

Does the explanation for the price incease make sense? Don't we buy barrels of cude and the fuel is refined from that here in the US? Shouldn't matter what the world demand is for one particular fuel, just the crude right?

Not if we're then turning around and selling the fuel on the open market again.

"Even sitting idling, trucks gulp up to a gallon of fuel an hour."
Wrong. Ever tested this with a fuel scale? Its the only accurate way to know. What has anyone seen that's actual data. I could speak for smaller engines (8 cylinder at that) of around 2lbs/hr. Since diesel weighs around 7lbs/gal, that's a far cry. But what's data you've seen?
