Stock 94 CTD vs.......

Hey there, well, the towing bug has bitten me. It started off when one of my friends brothers thought forsure that his 92 F250 with a 302 5spd could out tow my truck. I laughed at him, and finally we got the tow strap. We hooked up the trucks on a gravel road, I put the dodge in 4LO and first gear and just snugged up the strap until I seen him just start spinning wildly with all four tires, so I gave it a lil throttle and the dodge just started pulling him like there was nothing there, the turbo had not even got spooling up, I must have been at only 14 or 1500rpms I would say. Anyways, since that, I have received another challenge, except this time its from a fellow dodge owner. The challenge is my truck vs. his brand new Dodge 1/2 ton Club Cab short box 4x4 with a hemi. What do you guys think? Those new hemis got 395 lb/ft of torque... So I dont know, I think I will beat him, but im up for any opinions, also any advice on tow matches would be appreciated. Thanks

The taller truck wins. Doesn't have much to do with torque, you want to have a taller truck because when you pull against the other truck you pull up on his hitch and he pulls down on yours. He gets no grip and you have plenty so you drag him wherever it is you're going. As long as your truck is taller at the hitch, have no fear.

I never thought about it that way, thats really good to know, I guess my truck has got the upper hand in this then because the rearend of her sits pretty high off the ground with the heavy leafs and 315s.

hemi only has 375lbs of torque. you will out pull him without a problem. Hemi's get there torque at 4200RPM. They are gutless down low

i know first hand how gutless they are down low.

Hook it to your goose neck ball if you can, makes a world of difference.

We hook up all the time and my little o 1/2 ton chevy (I only pull truck about the same size as mine, no diesels) has never been pulled but my buddy (90 Ford 1/2 ton 302 auto 4X4) pulled a stock 95 Dodge cummins 2 wheel drive.I mean it wasn't fair because my bud put his in low and really he though the dodge would pull him, we was gonna do it for fun and dang he pulled him.

My of my other friends has a 84 3/4 ton 4X4.It has a walker and cullin 4 speed with low, 4:10 gears with 31s, and a 355, 375 horse small block pushin it.This sucker has a solid lifter 518 lift cam (forgot duration), and double hump heads with a little portin and polishin done to it, Comp. headers, and 3 inch straight pipes. It's got the power for cookin mud tires low, 1st,2nd, and bark em goin into 3rd.Anyways my other bud has a 02 Dodge 4X4 3500 dullay 6 speed cumminc.They hooked up with the dodge in high, chevy in low and pulled.Dodge pulled it no problem but the chevy turned 7,650 RPMs and through the fan belt and burnin all 4 tires in low made the transfer case chain break and that torn up the transfer case.

O yeah, we always pull on pavement.

Any one got any links to any vids? there was a bar in Orlando in FL called 8 seconds that had tug and a mud pit in the parking lot!!

Weight makes a big difference, also tires, depends on if you're pulling on dirt or the street.

What I've found is drop your tire pressure a bit and you will also gain the advantage.

That sounds like fun... I've had a few friend ask I want to do it... Maybe next ime I will!!!
