No inspections in Ca to my knowledge. Good thing as my tranny controller and pacbrake set off my cel light. Electrical tape to the rescue or pull the bulb. I periodically scan it for additional codes.

No inspections here - yet, but they do the emissions testing; The bonehead at my last test told me to "floor it and hold it until I say "Stop" - I made it CLEAR that this would not happen, diesels aren't supposed to run at 3500+ rpm, and he should check the procedure....which is to stomp and release the go-peddle 3-times, the amissions are averaged across the 3 "runs". Passed with lower readings than any other vehicle I've ever had tested (including my old '95 Civic)....
...I think it's a waste of time!

You only have to inspect when a car transfers in MD, and they don't make you when you buy or are given a vehicle from a family member.
thats insane an inspection is needed every year (in my opinion)
maine's rule of thumb is if they can see rust holes- like the cab corners and fenders of any truck that has done some muding- they wont pass it,there tough up here.

Diesel powered pickups registered 10,000 lbs. and up do not require NJ state inspection, they fall under self inspected. I would recomend carrying a copy of the law and something that looks like some maintanace records. At 18,000 lbs and up they require a smoke test.

Nope. The Harris County Toll Road Authority (Houston area) charges by the number of axles - it doesn't matter how many wheels are on each axle.

NC-11.00 inspection no emissions on the oil burners, I think 33.00 for an OBD-II car or truck, both emissions and safety. They kill me on my regi. with a 13K GVW!!

Diesels have to be done EVERY year, cars go every other year.
Only along the Front Range.

I agree in AZ they told me to floor it and hold it.... I told them to stuff it.

Here in NJ I do not have to do inspection or emissions because GVWR is over 10,000 and less than 18,000. Otherwise inspection is free here and lasts 2 years. Inspection and emissions all happen at the same place...

What's an inspection?
In Montana no vehicle or smog checks for diesels or gassers.
We also have a lifetime registration option for rigs over ten years old, pay once and it's good for as long as you own the vehicle.

How much does that lifetime reg. cost? What are the residency requirements up there?

I once had tags in Oregon which were $20 for 2 years. I live in a RV so I move around a lot.

Depends on the county. In Pima they just have a 50 mph run. In Maricopa (in PHX metro or if you commute to PHX for work) you do the three time to th floor. Which with a loud cummins can be 1800 rpm.
