That is because Maine sucks and is run by a bunch of stupid liberals that nickel and dime you for everything when it comes to your vehicle, from state inspection stickers to regeristing the vehicles to increasing tolls on the turnpike. What we need to do is get the stupid phonny liberal Baldacchi out of the goveners seat and get a good old conservitive in there and turn Maine back to the good old state she use to be

It cost me $120 for the lifetime registration. Would have been $80 for a one year registration.
Many states have the lifetime registration option, they just don't advertise it for obvious reasons.
If you live in Montana for more than six months a year you have to pay state income tax.

I pay I think $15 for inspection in college station (no emissions) (brazos county). Back home in fort bend county (emissions testing) my mom only pays $12 for her 3/4 ton Dmax 4x4.

In Vermont, an inspection usually goes at $25 pass or fail.... I;m from Maine where I can get them all day long at $12.... Here in Vermont you CAN'T buy a new diesel engine because they wont pass cali emmisions which I think is bullcrap... because its alright to burn tires as long as you send them ton New Jersey...... hypocrytes..

We don't have inspections any more. When they dropped it they added about $5.00 to the cost of your tags every year.

The only problem I have is every year when renewing the plates they keep trying to give me commercial tags. It seams that the state thinks that everybody that drives a diesel uses it for a business.

Diesels...$10 here less than 10'500# GVW 1975 and newer. Cat. check w/mirror.
OBDII on '02 & newer, smoke test at idle for '01 & older and both also get the fuel filler cap check, which is kinda stupid since there's no evap system on diesels. If I told'em the fuel tank is vented from the factory, they'd probably accuse me of tampering so I ain't tellin'...screw'em.

i cant agree with ya more but "BalDicky" still has 49% of maine ready to vote him in again so i guess i dont know what the heck 49% of maine is thinking, its just insane the crap he trys to do in this state.
and just one of many -and, just 'cause its one of the craziest ones i have heard from him-- is that private wells should be state taxed for water usage the same as city water.......but no one wants for this to turn into a "whats wrong with maine?"

$29 here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts. Doesn't matter if it's gas or diesel, or I believe size as in 10 wheel dump trucks, for instance.

Sniffed every other year and regular safety inspections every year. $29 regardless.

My 05 was new last year, so it wasn't sniffed. I don't think it will be next year either, so I shouldn't need to be until 09 unless they change things here. They're picky here, too, with diesels. None of the TDI's can be sold here now due to thier new design. AFAIK, they have EGR's and still can't pass emissions. They're hoping the low sulfur fuel will change that.

In Texas is it necessary to have the safety inspection done in the county that it is registered, or can it be done in any county?
I am heading up to the Dallas area next week and need the inspection. Is the inspection valid for my tag renewal if I have it done anywhere in the DFW area?

The State use to have an Inspection Program here in Florida. They found it was not effective. They also found the Inspection Stations that were not state owned, were robbing the public finding far more wrong with vehicles than was really there.

Today the State Police, DOT, and County Sheriff officers monitor the hwys for cars and trucks that are not up to standard.

Its just a big profitt center for the state and local inspection stations if you have an inspection program.
