Best I recall, all of the ones I drove were autos. Might have been a few sticks, but don't think so. They did have low geared rears tho.
For most of their life they most likely never saw over 40-45 mph

Not necessarily alot of idling, but alot of full throttle at very slow speeds. I drive a yard truck that just had the 3126 Cat engine overhauled... at 7,000 hrs and 30,000 miles.

So Jeremy, what took out the 3126? Did something break or was it just worn out? The 3126 in my work truck has about 3,500 hours on it so far, it should be at 7,000 by 150k. Seems like a short life for a medium duty truck engine.
We have a couple of 3126 cats at work and they just do not live very long. All 3 of them were rebuilt at around 175,000 miles. The little Cats have a bad rep for that. All of ours got to using multiple gallons of oil in a week. I think that we would have been better off to swap out those engines for something else. JMHO.

That's what this one did... was goin through about a gallon in 10 hrs times two 10 hr shifts.
When mine came back, my partner (on the same shuttle route) had his rebuilt... same symptom.
I think that yours will hold out alot longer than what these do. They get revved to full throttle, back to idle, full throttle, idle, full throttle, part throttle (to make a turn), full throttle, part throttle and then idle, put it in reverse, part throttle (to back into the dock). That's just one way! Multiply that by 50+ times per shift!
No wonder it wore out.
And to top it off, they only run 26MPH.
