If you need to trace where some of your noises are coming from, check this out. This little dude has come in handy for me several times.

Yeah, Ive probably should get one. I currently use a breaker bar.
It works: One end to my ear, the other on various parts of the engine.

The RPM range for working that engine is 1600 to 2400 RPM. You might be lugging it if working below that 1600RPM low limit.
I find that mine seems to have a sweet spot around 2000 to 2100.
These little Yanmars don't mine reving while working!!

The PTO will disengage at 2000rmp (so Ive been told) and the tach only goes to ~2200.
Wide open, the engine only revs to ~1800, maybe 2000.
And honestly, at that rpm, that engine sounds like its going to gernade.

Run the engine to operating temperature and then idle...... What is your oil pressure??

What is the oil pressure at full throttle operating temperature?

What is the oil pressure on cold startup??

If you have main bearing issues you will likely find that you have a significant drop in oil pressure at operating temperature, particularily at idle. There will be a spec for permissable Oil P.

That will give you and indication of the overall condition opf the engine.

Thanks for info tool.
Neither tractor no I have a psi gauge on for the oil. The tractor has an idiot light for oil pressure.
I do have a generic psi gauge meant to monitor water pressure up to ~80psi.
Im not sure that'll work, or work with oil but I may try it. Or simply buy me an oil pressure gauge and hook it up permanently.
Ive already contemplated putting in a full set of gauges, maybe this will be the catalyst for some gauges.

I've got a Kubota B8200 that I added an oil pressure gauge to. There is a reason they call these tractors "compact", 'cause there's no extra room anywhere!!

I got a Harley gauge and made a bracket to mound down on the left side of the shifting lever out of the was and still visible. This gauge is sealed so no dust, dirt, water gets inside it. And, it's about 2" diameter.

Room isnt a problem. I have plenty of room up on the current bezzle for gauges.
Ive been looking for some gauges that withstand the abuse of being outdoors all the time.

I have a set of these oil pressure and coolant temp gauges on two of my tractors that are parked outside 100% of the year. Been working great for over ten years. Price is right too.

http://surpluscenter.com/ is a good place to find gauges if you're not particularly concerned with appearances (or what the gauge says it's monitoring).

The Cyberdyne gauges I linked to are easy, three wires to each sender-
a switched positive, ground and signal wire back to the gauge.

Thanks infidel, I may check those out.
Just mowed front, back and side yards tonight. Got it all done in three and a half hours. Thats the fastest Ive been able to mow the yard since I purchased the tractor.
However, gauges would sure be nice.

Thanks guys.
Rich.

You should be able to pick up a cheap mechanical type oil pressure gauge setup and most tractor or auto supply outlets for very little $$$$
