Quick Question...

It seems like the only choice of tranny for the newer trucks is an auto or a 6-spd. So when there was a choice between auto, 5 or 6 speed, why would anyone choose the 5 speed? Why not just get the 6?

Just curious...

IMO the 5 speed is the better option for in town, racing and pulling. The only reason I could think of for a six speed is pulling heavy loads, less Drop between each gear. It's also alot easier finding someplace that will work on the 5 speeds if you ever have problems on the road, not many places are willing to tackle that beast of a six speed tranny. Parts are also easy to come by in a pinch.

When the 5 and 6 speeds were available, they were mated to different engines (in the second gens.) The 5 speed was for the SO (You had the option of getting the Auto), while the 6 speed was for the HO (no Auto option for the HO in the second gens).
