Quad cab, or Mega Cab.

Hey guys, In a few months im going to be a proud father and was wondering what you fathers out there recomend for a truck.

Right now I have a 03 quad cab, which I think will be sufficiant for now till the kid gets bigger, or should I take the plung and sell my truck and buy a mega cab.

Thanks guys.

If you are not having any troubles with your current truck I would suggest keeping it until the little one is a bit bigger. Unless you're just itching to get a new truck!!

I think Mega Cab's look stupid, so I say Quad Cab. If Chevy and Ford can make a back seat big enough for a grown man, without making the truck look bloated...come on Dodge.

Anyway, you also already have your truck and know it, and won't have to worry about bigger payments or anything.

I would keep your truck... more maneuverable, less expensive, better mileage, etc. The megas are nice, but that quad cab will be enough to haul that kid around untill he/she is driving it

I would say go with the mega with kids man. I recently swapped trucks with a friend, let him take my mega while I drove his 05 quad cab. I couldn't believe how small the cab of his felt. He kept saying that he couldn't get over how big the cab of mine was. He is now looking at getting a mega cab. His wife mentioned the fact that she thought it needed flip of triangles like school buses. I went from a 98' quad cab to this thing and it did take some getting used to. It's a parking lot killer.

18 month old twins and the QC has worked great for us. Even room for the wife between the two car seats.

The MC is too **** ugly for me to own one. I've yet to see a MC that I thought looked good.

As far as room in the QC goes,I'm 6' tall and can ride back there pretty comfortably. I wouldn't want to ride cross country back there, but overall it fine.

Even with my brother (6'5") in front of me,he can slide the seat up far enough to have room in front without my knees touching the seatback.

The only thing about the back seats that bother is that the seatbacks are almost straight up and down.

Something smaller than a MC and a bit bigger than a QC,would be perfect IMO.

he's got one kid in the oven... one... a little one...

he could buy another car for the difference in the amount he's probably upside down vs. the cost of a new mega!

I switched from a QC to a Mega and would not go back. Yes you can get the kids in a QC but it's a bit cramped for you trying to get them buckled in. With the Mega it is very easy to climb in and get it done. A QC will work for you for now but when they get bigger the extra room is nice in the Mega.

And how can you say this isn't cool??

I'm in the same boat right now. My son is just 10 months old but his carseat is a good size and it's tough getting him in and out. Now I know eventually he will grow up and not need it, but that's not going to be for quite a while. Even still, when I take adults with me whoever rides in the back always has something to say about it. The quad is better than any extended cab I've had or ridden in, but still not as roomy as my 99 Ford CC was or even a CC GM. The mega is nice and all, I like it, would love to have that cab space but it is really a bit of overkill. To borrow a line from Gale Banks, Dodge must not have any engineers on their staff. The trend was towards roomier cabs long before the 02/03 redesign. They should have just designed standard and crew cabs to begin with. I'd love to see what a crew cab long bed 03 would look like.....not a Mega/Long, a crew/long.

Anyway my debate is way up in the air. I'm debating going back to a Ford CC, with a 7.3 of course. They can be had for cheap. But, I don't know if I want a real high mile truck....the low or decent mile ones are getting harder to find. I've also thought about a Megacab with the Hemi. I don't mind the Hemi, I'd rather have a CTD but I could do without the mega payment it would come with. I have found 4x4 Mega's for 15 to 16 grand with under 100k. I think it would be a little hard finding a 6.7 or a 5.9 Mega for that price without 150k miles.

You all keep your quads they are great for kids, and the thousands of $$'s you save will buy lots of fuel, diapers, and babysitters!
Mr's Marty and Sunday, your jealousy is completely transparent, yea that mega cab sure is ugly!!

I believe firmly that the 03-04s are some of the best Cummins motors ever put in a Dodge minus the fuel pump issues and vent door troubles. They are effecient, have IMO nicer interiors than the 06+, and won't trouble you with DPF issues etc. Keep your 03.
