Pulled that right out!

On the way back this afternoon touring the wifes new digs at work we were forced to practically go through a ditch to get around someone who had backed their trailer (16' tandem axle) full of gravel into a ditch. Their truck (Chevby 1500 with the mighty V-6) was blocking the road. Wife dropped me off and I took off back the site to see if I could lend a hand. They had backed the trailer off a culvert and buried one side in the mud. The lady said she had three tons of gravel on the trailer and couldnt pull it out. It took about 20 minutes to unlatch her truck from the trailer and hook mine up as the hitch was at a good angle. I told them I hadnt really pulled anything big yet so if they smelled something funny it was probably my clutch. I pulled the clutch a little quick and the load started to get ahead of the engine a bit. A little more go peddle and the thing pulled right out. I honestly expected a little more resistance from the load. The trailer was not cheap angle either iron but 2" tubing. If they werent BS'in me then the whole shebang was probably 7K pounds. I think I like my truck even more now!

Can I just say it...Thank you for being a true American -- Stopping to help someone out! It was well worth it, even if it made you a bit late for something else. Isn't the pulling-power of these rigs something incredible?

While I agree with that statement, I don't think you have to just be American to do that.

I was looking for marks on the road and didnt see any. They initially said to just leave the trailer where it was and they would move it after it dried up. The tongue was sticking about six inches into the roadway. I also thought someone might take the opportuniy to snag a really nice trailer. I had fun and they got their trailer. But you know, after reading Equalizer 2's post (My Turn!), I feel inadequate.......

Good job, I should have got pics of what I pulled.....well drug around. My buddy's semi was screwing up and woudln't start, so he wanted to pull it off, we filled up the tanks with air, I got it up to speed but I knew this would be a losing matter cause the air would all leave, well that is what happened, I had to drag him for 200 yards after the air dropped to get him out of my driveway to the farm.

I'll bet you could've pulled both the truck AND the trailer out of the ditch if you'd had a decent tow strap...

Too much work. I'd have left the Chevy hooked to the trailer.

I pulled a Honda Accord out of a ditch one day with my truck. Phew, that was tough.

Gee, you almost had to give it fuel above an idle. I guess the hardest part was engaging the clutch easy enough that you didn't rip the Honda in half?
