Problems with 03'-04' Ford PSD's??
They've had alot more problems than just the variable vane on the turbo hanging open... Tons of rear main seal leaks, injectors stuck open, etc.
It seems like such a complicated engine setup, with the oil pressure used to fire the injectors..??? All those V8 diesels look like a nightmare to work on...

my brother had a 03 6.0L 6spd 4 dr dually, pretty bad **** truck overall. but one day after he took it in for a warranty on the clutch(smoked it completely at a truck pull) he had his rear u-joint snap two of the ends and stopped int he middle of rush hour, then to make it worse it wouldnt lock into 4wd. so he had to try and push it, long story short, he ended up trading it in on a 05 6L because after he got the u-joint fixed he had a huge vibration in the rearend. since he is a mechanic he and my dad analyzed it to be either the tranny was going or the rear end was shot, or both.up until that it was a great truck, but when the shat hit the fan it really hit quick.
Biggest problem with 6.0 is 33% less head bolts then the 7.3, 4 compared to 6. I cannot for the life of me firgure out why navistar would do that. Even my 4 yr old son could tell you that would be a problem, what were they thinking?

You bring up a very good point about those head bolts on the Ford 6.0 PSD engines. One of my good friends is a technician at Scheid Diesel and he said that if a head has to be taken off a 6.0 PSD Engine you have two options:
1.) Remove the cab to get to the engine/head.
2.) Completely remove the engine!
All I have to say about that is.............WOW!!

Yeah, to remove cab for a HG is crazy, The utility I work at has several 550 with buckets on them for serviceman. 90% of them have antifreeze streaks in the drivers side well from bad HG, Ford hates fixing them they have to turn boom over side of truck and unhook a zillion wires for radio cumputer bucket controls and anything else that get put in these trucks.
