Over REVING??
Over REVING??
Ole Jim here!--as most members know! I*M looking at Older DODGE Diesels the 12 Valve & a New neighbor w/ an older GMC diesel invited Me to visit local Dealerships & look over what they have? Lots of New Diesels--NICE!! but on our Way back HOME! His GM pick UP started Racing? over Reving?--& I mean running WILD!!--w/ Lots of WHITE Smoke out the Exhaust-couldn*t see behind Us at ALL--as I thought?? WE were on FIRE? HE shut it OFF! & coasted to the side of the Road! & WE sat there! checked every thing & every thing looked Normal? Nothing Burned? or Smoking? after a few minutes t started right UP! & as We continued HOME it Did it Again!--so He called a Ramp Truck & had it Towed as We were cheking every thing--Nothing looked un-useual? OIl in Pan checked Ok! nothing Leaking? I DONO? what it could Be?? any Suggestions? as His GMC has over 100,000 on It & never has done that before?-as It Scared the Crap out of ME! as it Acted like YOU Floored It in Nuteral w/NO load on the Engine! as We were driving along--as I thought??it was Going To Destroy itself?--by just Screamimg until it Blew UP?--DONO?? --Ole JIM--
Find where the fuel return line ties in to the injection pump, between the line and the pump is a small fitting ( check valve ) remove it and se if it's plugged, if it is it's time for a new pump.
100-150 k miles is usually it for those pumps.
The little check ball is glass and can be broken out and driven short distances to get the vehicle home.
