There was a post on here some time ago about bio fuel and someone even had a link to a site that sells the conversion kits, but I can't seem to find it. It did look interesting though...Especially with the price of fuel these days.

pittom,

I would love to hear your results.
Please post them or PM me, I dont have a diesel yet, but one of the main reasons I want one is so I can Run alternative fuels.

It is so cool to me, that the original diesel engine was made to run on peanut oil, the whole purpose of diesel was that farmers could Grow their own fuel. I know we have high pressure injectors now but you can still run Bio, my brother has a 91' cummins and runs biodiesel B20, he has run b100 and even SVO several times. Says his engine runs better than it did before.

Please let us know your proceedure and results.

Trout

Thats working the engine off of Waist Veggie Oil with no conversion of the WVO to biodiesel. You have to modify the engine for that. You can make Biodiesel and not modify the engine. Do LOTS of internet research before you start this.

Your title asks if anyone uses biofuel. I run Biodiesel, but don't feel the need to bother with trying to make any, nor would I knowingly run anything home made in my blue beast until the warranty is over.

Even then I doubt I'd let anything homemade in the tank.

There are lots of sites on the net that have forums like this where folks trade info on making alternative fuels.

Running Bio and making your own fuel are two different things. The way it has been shown on here and other sites, to get set up with the needed tanks, pumps, water wash, filters, heater and start up chems you are in the ball park of thousands of dollars. The consensus seemed to be that it was more trouble than it was worth. Alternative fuels? Yes, bring it on! But becomming a chemist in you basement or garage?
If I were rolling around in a 1984 VW I would play around with it. When you consider the price of a VP 44, I'll leave it to the professionals to blend my fuel(s).

I haven't made my own yet, except for a 1 litre test batch, but I do run purchased B100 in my truck now and then, and have been running B100 in my Kubota tractor for a few months now, and have noticed no difference in how it runs. The exhaust just smells like burnt cooking oil.
I have purchased a kit with all the necesary plmbing, but I must supply the tanks, for bulding my own BD reactor. I have the necessary water heater now, but have not gotten to putting it together yet.

I plan on doing it too, I'm also interested on your configuration. About the only unknown for me at the moment is how much heat I'll have to add to get the fuel hot enough. I bought a infrared temperature sensor for this but I'd like to know if I have to do a HiH, HoH, or just be able to wrap the fuel filter with a copper coil.

I have nearly 20,000 miles on WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil) It is my opinion that WVO is the best way to go. In the cold climates one either has to blend bio-diesel with Dino-diesel or heat it up. I choose WVO because as long as I need to heat it anyway, why go to all the trouble of making Bio-diesel? I have the schematics of the setup I built on my truck that I will send to anyone who wants to look at them, just drop me an e-mail, e-address in profile.
Check out www.frybrid.com for the latest on WVO.

Here's a really good site that tells how to make your own biodiesel as well as some research on using SVO and WVO. http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel.html
