General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

New Owner

Hope this is the right place for this post. Sept. 7th I became the owner of a new '05 Ram 2500 CTD. With all the desparate acts to sell vehicles by the dealers and manufacturers, I couldnt pass it up. This is my first diesel, so I'm on a huge learning curve. I've been lurking around here for about a month reading and learning. Today I even turned off the annoying seatbelt chime, thanks to you guys! Some folks may not like this, but my truck is primarily used for transporting me to and from work. No towing. I like the fact I can drive a 7K# vehicle and still get 20 mpg. And have the ability to pull a small house off a slab if the need arises. Although, in my mind it did come in REAL handy and pay for itself during our little hurricane evacuation. The bed was loaded for bear and a rented single axle furniture trailer was loaded with keepers and such with the dog in the rear (the fold-flat floor under the rear seats was cool) and the wife and kids in her car (details at a a later date). Anyway, judging from what I've read to date, you all are really knowledgeable and love the share that knowledge. I hope I can contribute something here. Thanks, Steve.

Welcome to DTR! You'll love the Cummins, and the Dodge ain't bad.

First and foremost.....don't forget and put gasoline in it!

Don't laugh, I've heard of it happening.

Thanks! I've read about Hoss and his concrete bed liner. Still not sure if it was a joke or the real thing. If it is real, he has got to have the smoothest riding truck around!

The concrete bed liner is real, it's Hoss that I'm not sure about.

Welcome Steve!

I've SEEN it happen. A hot-shot driver was making a delivery to a shop I was visiting. Said he just filled up and his truck and wasnt running right. He realized real quick that his 40 gallon fillup was not what it was supposed to be. Unbeknownst to the facility, I watched him limp his truck over to a side ditch and siphon out his entire tank into that ditch. I think about that guy everytime I fill up. I make sure I have the smelly pump with the green handle.

Ours was 18 hours from Alvin to San Marcos. The truck was flawless. Amazing. The wifes Intrepid did very well to, except for the fuel gauge sending unit went out. The thing would bounce between full and empty. Everytime the gauge went to "E" the thing chimed. For 12 hours. Every ten seconds or so. Her and kids werent real happy when we got to our destination. I had to freeze out the cab so my dog would stay umm.....slow and sleepy. Everytime I thought he was sleeping I would turn the A/C up to warm up a bit and sure enough he would raise up his head to look around and sit up and try and get in the front seat. A/C back down and he would get in the back and curl up. He did great for his first real trip in a vehicle. And for 18 hrs. no less. I got to come back to a standing house. So I would do it again if it means a home to come home to.
