Thumbs up New Guy

Well as the new guy, I would like to say Hi to everyone. I just picked up a 2001.5 2500, 6sp, HO, 4wd. Does anyone have any tips, pointers, common problems, or reliability answers on here? Is this a pretty solid truck? I am new in turns of owning a diesel but I have a basic knowledge of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forums. First you will want to monitor your fuel pressure as it seems the lift pumps may have issues. There are a few other things, but this is probably the most important.
Good luck and enjoy your ride.

will do. What is the best way to monitor fuel pressure? What is the safe range for the pressure to be in? How much are lift pumps?

Gauges should be your first priority, and fuel pressure should top the list. You will want a 0-30 psi gauge for your truck. You should do a search for fuel pressures to see what is normal, but I believe it should never drop below 5 psi at WOT. I think lift pumps run around $100 give or take, but if the lift pump fails it can take out the injection pump which is major $$$$

I plan on getting a boost gauge, pyrometer, and I guess triple it with the fuel pressure. So ultimately you would be able to save your injector pump if you could monitor your fuel pressure?

That is correct. As long as you don't starve the injector pump, you should be good to go. I add diesel additive for lubrication purposes as a simple precaution as I am paranoid. Power Service is pretty cheap and readily available.

Im also a new member, but dont have a diesel yet. I have another year before my daughter is old enough to drive and she will prolly get my fronty and I am planning on replacing it with a CTD.
One thing I noticed in an ad, it for a turbo cooldown timer. Is there anything habits I need to work on when I get a diesel. I have a 35 mile commute each way to work so running time isn't a problem.

Cool down timer isn't absolutely necessary, and not really necessary at all if you are not towing. Stick around the forums until you get your truck, and you will know more by then about diesels than you ever thought possible.

yea, I have hung around TUNFS (the unofficial nissan frontier site) about 6 months after I bought my nissan, I discovered that its a great source of info and decided I would find a site dedicated to the next vehicle I buy.

As I posted in another thread, the only time I get to feed my diesel addition is with the companys 95 CTD which gets putted around town and only driven 7.6 miles every couple days.

I used to have a 1/2 mile commute... I could get to work in the dead of winter without warming my car and not have time to get cold. But they decided to move my job to Mexico without me.
