New Dodge diesel
New Dodge diesel
I bought my first diesel 2 weeks ago after riding in a friends several times. I bought a Dodge 2500 and have installed a Dr. Performance chip. The mechanic at the dealership told me that I could remove the catalytic converter as it is not required for inspection purposes and will help performance somewhat. Is this going to make the truck any louder as far as exhaust? If so I am going to leave it alone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the year.
Pre 1998.5, you can't, as it came with one from the factory.
1998.5 to 2003 (2004 maybe?) doesn't have one to remove, it's a resonator and can be taken off.
2004(?)-2006 and up, you can't, it would be against the law.

89-93 12 valve no cats.
94-98.5 12 valve had cats.
98.5-2003(maybe2004) 24 valves no cats.
2004 and up CR engines have cats.
No matter what inspection regulations you have or lack there of it is still illegal to remove the cat, it is a fedaral offense and do it at your own risk.
EDIT: I just remebered you said you have a chip so that would eliminate the possibility of you having a 12 vavle, silly me
