i am not a fan of the snow plow and a diesel unless u have springs in the front end to beef it up a bit..otherwise i believe it is too much weight with the cummins and the plow...but 2 each his own.

Have a 2000 & 2001 3/4 ton auto's with 8' Boss V-Plows on them (can't get much heavier then that). They both plow great and haul the plow around great, I see no ploblem. If you can though I would wait untill next year when you can the H.O. cummins with the auto.

Re:lookig at a new dodge diesel

I'm looking hard at an 03 as well with auto. A friend owns a diesel repair shop that is cummings certified and said it's easy to convert to the ho?????or equivalent???

The one I'm eyeing is a QC 4X4 longbed, SLT, with premium seat, tow pkg. I put on gobs of miles in Montana and will have a light (1000lb)camper on the back 2-7 days a week.

Questions:

Will 1000lbs ease the ride? (previous broken neck and bad back)

Are there other options I should look at getting?

Thanks.....Great Site
rojrdojr - with my two prior 3/4 ton 4x4 Dodge Cummins I've done two things to soften the ride:

1) Installed 2" leveling kit and 35" tires - which allowed me to run lower PSI.

2) When not hauling anything else, I keep my winter/summer tires from my other vehicles in the bed.

Best to y'all
Bill

The problem is that the stock auto will not take it. We put an Edge EZ on one of ours and you could feel the tranny slip and surging instantly, so we had to take it off. If you want to through $2000-$3000 in the tranny then you can turn up the power.

Re:lookig at a new dodge diesel

I heard of guys cutting truck tires in half- filling them with sand and placing in the wheelwells- I could do that with my light camper on to add a bit of weight. Since I will be driving 2-3k a month in the northern rockies this winter I want to be real careful with tire selection etc. Can't wait a year for the tougher tranny- maybe I should go with the 6 speed. The power really isn't an issue right now but I know that I will eventually covet the H.O. performance- plus my brother is a 7 year fan of the P.S.

Is the auto typically tough enough to stay in a truck 200,000 miles before a rebuild?
