My other turbodiesel ride!

Hi guys! As you know, I'm living in Europe, to be more specific, in Finland.
My Dodge is kind of the weird one in here.

I'm going to introduce my other turbodiesel powered vehicle. It was REALLY popular in here in the 70's and the 80's. Now allmost all of them are shipped in to the Africa. We have only about 70 of them registered on the road these days in our nation. Finland has population of 5.5million and we have about 3.5million passenger cars in our roads. They made over 3 million of them between 1968-1982 and they still are manufacturing it in Kenya TODAY with a license!!! And they manufactured it in Argentina until 1999 and they stopped the manufacturing it in Nigeria at the end of 2006.

So what I'm talking about?
Of course my 1976 Peugeot 504. I bought it in fall 2004, I stripped it completly, welded about 50 rust spots, and painted it, inside out. It was blue before. But I painted it with the Peugeot 504 1978 GLD Metallic Green, which happens to be the same colour than my other 504 1978 2.3 diesel GLD is. It's my fathers old one. He bought it 1980. He took it off the road at 6/6/94. I just decided that I'm going to do a 100% complete restauration on it in the future.

But this 1976 was a 2 liter ohv pushrod gas powered until 2004. After that I stripped it down.

I bought a 1990 Peugeot 605 with the most expensive and the rarest 3 liter 24 valve aluminium V6 ZPJ4 PRV6 gas engine. 200hp stock with three catalytic converter and map based injection.

I started fitting that in to my 504, but because it was a fwd engine I had to swap the lower block and oil pan from a 264 PRV 2.7 liter volvo in to it and now it fits inside of the 504's engine bay with peugeot 604 PRV engine mounts. Simple? Not! The 24 valve has higher valve cover on the drivers side because the camshaft balancing shaft, because of that it does not fit under the brake booster. So I abandoned the v6 for a while. Even I already bought an aftermarket injection in it.

So, my 504 was just gathering dust in my garage because I bought the Dodge at 2006 august. But now things are different, I have been building it slowly, and about half year ago I started really building it. I thought that I build the car itself together on the road and then start building the 24 v6. So I bought a Peugeot 1986 505 non turbo 2.5 diesel which is built on 504 chassis with upgraded suspension and drivetrain parts. Other than that, it's different car. So I took the Peugeots strongest Ba10/5 transmission out of it with the 2.5 Indenor pushrod 4 cyl diesel engine and the Torsen limited slipo rear diffrential!

Did you guys know that this car is all independent suspension car, front and the rear, disc brakes in all corners, rack and pinion steering, hydraulic clutch, rear wheel driven and mcperson supsnensioned. And it had all this when they introduced it in 1968!!

So anyway, I had the diesel engine, well, I bought a switcher s2a turbo from a finnish built Valmet 4.4liter tractor. I fitted it in the 2.5 liter diesel which now is in my 76 504. The turbo was so big that It did not fit under the exhaust manifold and the front axle, so I had to turn the exhaust manifold upside down and the turbo is now on the upper side of the engine, It allmost fitted under the hood(less than 1"), but I had to do a small hood scoop. I also bought a brand new intercooler and fitted it on the front. Did you knew that this engine uses Bosch VE pump? same than the old Cumminses use. I can use Cumminses 12mm plungers in it and my Dodges stock Holset HX35, it all goes there directly, the switcher s2a uses T3 flange as well!

I turned the VE pump to the max and it now provides 1.5 bar/26psi of boost and it goes sideways on dry pavement with third gear!!! This car weights only 1250kg/2750pounds.

I just got the most rarest 15" Peugeot GTI wheels, they enthusiast here wants a 600 euros/810bucks per set. I managed to get a set for 150euros from a 17 year old from his field car. I sand blasted them and epoxy painted those and they look like new with brand new Michelins(as the french car should have).

I think I could get it inspected for road use in about 2 weeks.

Now that I have a intercooled turbodiesel on my Pug, I thought I re-use all the pipings and build the 3 liter v6 gas engine with a Supercharger! I would do the turbos but they are inpossible to fit in the engine bay with the bold 90 degree V-angle and 6 in to one exhaust manifold design per side. And I have never owned a Supercharged gas engine! I think it would easily produce 350-400hp with 7psi of boost, aftermarket injection and direct igntion.

But hey, Here are some pics of it!
Here's the blue 76 and the my fathers green 78 on the back on 2004:

And here's the 76 NOW:

Here's the current engine bay:

Here's the allmost finished interior:

Notice Autogauge smoke series gauges, from left to right, Boost, EGT,Oil Temp and Water Temp for more accurate readings than the originals.

And here's a lot more of the project pics of it:
From old to new:

I thought you guys could be interested of this car because it's a older diesel. I have noticed that "you" americans usually dislike French cars, well so do I mostly, but my fathers 78 is the first car I have ever sat or driven, so I have grown with it and I really have learned to love it. And I think that every older car what is in nice condition is beautiful in its on way! And in all seriousness, it is fabulous to drive!!

Comments and questions are appreciated!
Thanks!

Neat work! I'll admit I had to re-read your first couple paragraphs, as I sort of lost track of the # of engine swaps you did. Good to know we Americans are not the only ones who enjoy pulling engines out and stuffing them into another car! Good luck as you finish up...

Thanks guys! I just got the hood latches on, but safety latch is a little bit of a problem because there's an intercooler now under it.
And then the Vacuum pump is going to be little tricky because of the turbo. Darn, everytime you add something cool you have to remove or modify twice the parts you just added.

The supercharged 3 liter 24v V6 is my ultimate goal, that's the engine what I want to put there.

I bet you guys did not know that they made the 504 as a pick-up!
Actually there was
The Sedan, what I have.
The Station Wagon: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Break_1978.jpg
The Station Wagon Dangel 4x4!!: http://www.504.org/images/world/Europe/FranceDangel.jpg

The Coupe: http://www.trulinesteering.com.au/Im...04%20Coupe.jpg
And the Cabriolet: http://www.504cc.com/picz/504hollywood0013.jpg
There was also a concept vehicle made what never came in to the production.
The Riviera, which is a Coupe styled station wagon, very nice!:

Oh and by the way, the 504 Pick-Up is most selling European made Pick-up of all time!

Smile cool

Man, that's pretty cool what you are doing!

Sadly, Peugeot never did well in America due to spotty reliability, and they suffered miserably at the hands of inept dealership technicians. I remember seeing them around every now and then as a kid, but I havent seen a 5 series turbodiesel in a good 15 years. Certainly a unique diesel ride!

Thanks!
They actually did not make the 504 with any sort of turbo engine. So that makes it even more unique.
The only rear wheel driven Peugeots with turbo engines are 505 and 604, which is extremely rare because it sold poorly everywhere.
Both of the models are based on the 504 chassis. 604 even uses 504 doors.

There's one extremely rare and nice one in Ebay there:

Very cool.

I'd also love to live in Finland, how hard is it to move there?

Citroen? . Hah, we have some little nuts in this forum as well.

Moving in the Finland is easier than moving in the usa.

Take a good read of this:

Great looking little project there.

You can see some of the size difference between the car and your truck in the third picture. You should get a shot of the two them next to each other.

There is a picture of my Dodge and the 504 together on my "kuvablogi", which means pictureblog.

Here they are:

There is a one white Peugeot 504 sedan with 4.4liter V8 on Australia.

Here's a video of it:
