I've seen it in a Super Wal Mart in IL, but not in my local Wal-Mart. At that price there's no sense bothering with the Rotella T "synthetic".

I just paid $22 per gallon from local distributor. Maybe have to stop at Wally World a little more often.

So it's a fully synthetic oil? Would this be better than the Rotella synthetic? I have been told that the Rotella isn't truly synthetic.

Yes it is (Mobil 1), and you were told correctly.

I don't want to start another Oil War...but if the Rotella synthetic is a group 3 base oil (i don't personally know) than it would be unfair not to call it a true synthetic. It's a newer and less expensive version of the better known PAO (poly-alpha-olefin) but there is nothing wrong with it, IMO.
I don't use Shell and am not a big supporter of Rotella in the last few years but.....

On the other hand, I do not see how Mobil can sell what use to be Delvac I for $4.00 @ qt??? The Delvac I that I know from the past can't be manufactured and distributed for $4.00 @ qt! IMHO.
Also, Mobil has gone to using their tri-base oil in many oils, incl. Mobil I. It's a combination of Group 3,4 & 5 base oils and no one I can find can tell me what % of each is used. Nothing really wrong with this, in normal applications, but not what it once was for Racers or heavy users. Could Delvac I have been reformulated??
JMO base on 15 yrs being involved in Mfg. of higher quality lubricants.

I looked at the Mobil website and the Mobil 1 Truck/Suv and Delvac 1 have exactly the same specs. I don't know about the other stuff.

As far as I know Delvac has always been a group 3 oil.
Not a true synthetic but can call it synthetic due to goofy laws.

I was unimpressed this winter with the cold pour characteristics of the Valvoline Blue extreme 5-40. I run synthetic oil mainly because my truck has to sit outside in Minnesota winters but the Valvoline left me wishing for a true synthetic.

I might give the Mobil 1 a try and see if it is any better if I can get it at that price.

Bill, I may be wrong but I thought Delvac I had been around a lot longer than the use of Group 3 base oils, so I assumed it was a PAO (Group 4). If it's Group 3, that would explain the lower pricing...but not the devout followers who swear it's the greatest.

amartinson - if looking for the lower pour points of a "true" synthetic, using Group 4 or 5 base oils, I would suggest Amsoil. (and maybe Royal Purple and Red Line....not sure anymore about these two.). Amsoil is the only Mfg. I know that has doggedly stuck with group 4 and above. It will only gain you about 10-20* difference, in the pour point, from Group 3 oils, which may not be noticable in cold startups.

Actually Delvac 1 is of the highest quality, and is in fact a group 4 pao/ester based true synthetic. Amsoil is group 4, as well as Redline. Some popular group 3's are Rotella syn, Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme, Castrol Syntec(gasser), etc.
