Million Mile Dodge
Million Mile Dodge
Ok for those that don't know. A little history on my truck. The previous owner delevired travel trailers out of Southern IN. to around the country and racked up over a million miles with it. Now In 2000 my dad bought the truck for me to drive when I turned 16 now I am 19 knowing that it had that many miles on it. There are supposed to still be service records to back this up. My truck runs fine and everything but there is a rumor that cummins is buying these trucks and giving the person a new truck and no charge. I don't why they want them. I guess to tear down the motors and look at them.
So my question is, has this happened to anyone for sure and who can I contact to further investigate this?
Thanks

Many moons ago here in the UK, our company ran a coach with the L10.( in its infancy)...when that reached a million, cummins uk supplied and fitted a replacement engine, aparantly they wanted to measure wear etc...then ran it to destruction..Not heard of it now-a-days tho.....Many engines will run a million or more...
We have 11ltr Scania engines, in 1988 vehicles that have never had the heads removed/inj pumps o/hauled...now thats a good engine....

my dad had a 97 he bought new and put 120,000 in about a year or so and the dealer or DC was interested in buying it back because they were impressed with the milage on a relatively new truck, but he never heard back from them and sold the truck when he reached 600k several years later
I worked for Pennzoil Quaker State R & D Lab before Shell bought us and closed us down.
We bought a guy a new chevy truck after his personal truck that he delivered papers in out of state? Hit a million miles, he had it serviced at Jiffy lube (Pennzoil) so we had all of the documentation. We took the motor out measured all of the wear. Then cross sectioned the motor and put it on display at shows. Put a brand new motor back in the old truck and used it as a show truck. So it can be done. Good luck

I'm not sure a million miles on a dodge with a cummins is noteworthy enough for them to bother with anymore. The reason I say that is more and more 1 million+ mile cummins are on the roads. We have a fairly small dealership here in Montgomery, and a buddy of mine who is the main diesel tech there says they get 1 or 2 a year through the shop for some reason or another. Now I know that's a terribly small percentage, but it's enough that it won't come as a surprise to most people. I doubt they'll want to spend the money to give you a new truck because of it.
Penzoil once bought a Chevy 350 V-8 from a delivery guy with over 1,000,000 miles on it. But a gasser going a million miles is a lot more spectacular then a diesel. (And besides, they were the one that did the oil changes every 3000-3200 miles from new. So they had proof, and GM turned it down

Just saw a Toyota truck commercial last night on TV and they were touting their new trucks turning well over 250Kmiles and still a chuggin'.
What next, Mileage wars? We're already enduring the horsepower/torque wars between DC, F and GM. Toyota DOES make a quality product and longevity IS a strength of theirs.
We'll see if DC picks up on the challenge... With our Rams equipped with the Cummins engine, Toyota has a very steep challenge ahead. But as for the rest of the truck, "T" probably could outlast DC in a quality war only if their engine is up to it.
Maybe a little more healthy competition will induce DC (and the others)to get back on the quality bandwagon.
We'll see what 2007 EPA Tier III enviro reg's are going to do to the diesel marketplace. Lots of changes afoot...
Time will tell...

Yo Rattler. Do you mean milage war's or endurance wars? I Tripple Dog Dare any motor company to say, here's your new vehicle, we'll see you in 20 year's. (if you don't get into an accident) Stainless steel bodies, free injectors to a million miles, free alignments and wheel bearings too.
Sorry, I was just thinking happy thoughts. I'll be okay. So our next goal is what, 2 million miles?
