Question Max EGT's on stock diesels

Question for all of you:

In stock form, what is the max exhaust tempts that these diesels will reach (P-Stroke, D-Max and the Cummins)?

Just curious if these diesels can experience EGT melt down in the stock configuration or if they are designed from the factory to never be able to reach those temps.

Rich.

I'm still stock, fueling wise, and I've seen 1250 on a nice long hill, unloaded.

Boost was fighting against the wastegate, fluctuating between 19 and 20.

Unknown what the temp would have been with the stock airbox though,
maybe I'll have to throw it back on and do a test?

Thanks Phox.

So, out of curiosity,
if EGT's can reach 1250 on a stock truck, why wouldnt the manufacturers put in Pyrometers (at least as an option)?

I'd also wonder what they would have peaked at were I towing a 12K trailer?

I only have the airraid filter on mine, bone stock motor wise...I max @ 1250 on a 6% grade, 4 miles long, with a 27' TT. I don't "think" you could get to a melt down point with a completely stock unit. JMHO

I can hit 1250°F as well, pyro pre-turbo. This is @ WOT up a hill pushing 30+psi of boost and really cookin' up the hill. This is unloaded.

I will be getting myself an intake and straight pipe soon, so hopefully that will go down a bit as I have an Eliminator on order

Pulling our previous 13,500 lb GVWR 5th wheel, I've seen 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT on grades back when our truck was bone stock except for gauges and the dealer-installed Jacobs exhaust brake.

Am I lucky or what...

I just did 4500 miles some at 17500 (empty weight) picked up an old
Ford backhoe that put my gross at 33800 (ouch!) I ran I-80 across PA
to Wisconsin, I saw 1000, 1100, 1150, 1200 for hundreds of miles with
the pyro 3.5" from the BACKSIDE of the turbo. Picked up a 1950 John D
model R tipped in at 7200 plus the 17500 total 24700 and still had high
EGT's to lower MAINE, picked up 2 ford trucks and headed home still
seeing 1000* to 1200* POST TURBO!! With all this and the water temp
was 190-195* with a few hills going to 210* that was the max on the H2O
poor little oil pressure thought it was lost just sitting at 48 to 50 pounds
the whole time.

Believe me, I was really worried about another meltdown.

Been there and done that before.

However, I have checked everything out and found no ill effects, NOT
that I want to keep running it that way.

I can't afford to be again

Gee,

When I towed acargo trailer that was less thatn 5000# and a bed full of stuff, truck weighed about 9000 or so, pulling 5 to 6% grades with auto tranny OD locked out, and cruise on EGT would climb thru 1450, and I would take out of cruise, and back it off the throttle a little to get EGT's down to 1250.
This is with a BHAF and 4" streight thru muffler exhaust system. Tranny temp and coolent stayed normal.
