I thought about "pests" vs "pets" when I wrote it and decided in favor of "pets". Pests is what we try to eradicate; pets we keep for their amusement value. I think the shopping cart drivers certainly add fun to our daily life by highlighting how nice it is to drive a CTD and doing stupid things, like trying to race us, that are very funny. So, they qualify as pets.
