Sad, sad day...
Hey all. Well, Rolled my baby wednesday night. Went around a corner and the truck swapped ends and went over on me. I had just left a memorial service for a good friend of mine that passed on saturday. To top it all off, It was my birthday... Havn't heard anything from the insurance co. yet, but im sure it will be a total loss. Pretty much all the sheetmetal is thrashed. Ive never been in an accident before, so it has me wondering: will they total the vehicle based on sheetmetal? I took all my goodies off already just in case. I really hope they dont, the truck is very sentimental to me. What do you all think?

Sorry to hear that. In terms of it being totaled, I think if the damage is more than something like 80% of blue book, they will total it but I'm 1/2 guessing on that.

They go off the value of the car, not what it looks like. Have any pics? Whats it blue book for? Ya some insurance comps will go to 60 others 80. And if your frame is bent and live in Texas your truck will be a T/L no matter what is wrong with the truck.

Based on the value of the vehicle and the total cost of damage, they may or may not. Usually if a vehicle still has a pretty high net worth as compared to the amount of damage done, they will just write a check and repair the damages...if there is damage done to the frame, however, they will total it because the integrity of the vehicle will never been up to standards again.

When I looked at the truck the next day, all the wheels were straight, and the frame didn't look damaged at all. I wasn't going very fast, maybe 40 or so, and when it went over, it went into a deep concave shaped ditch, so pretty much all the sheetmetal was crunched. the cab was dented in, but it didn't smash flat or anything. Guess the stacks held it up....Ha Ha

I can be DONE any day of the week (just look at folks and old muscle car projects, etc), however, if so much damage is done to a vehicle in a crash that the frame is warped, that usually constitues a total loss and would just be written off...I've never seen a vehicle with extensive frame damage from an accident that didn't look like it was just played like an accordian.

Well if its just hit in the front end and the frame is bent, they wouldnt call it a T/L unless it went over the value of the car. Either replace it or cold pull the frame. We have a F 150 in our shop and is getting the frame replaced.
