Just rode in a Duramax

Well guys, I just took a ride in a 2002 Duramax. A little about the truck: Regular cab, allison transmission, 4x4, 3.73(I think) it only had the programer where you plug it in and program it done to it. Lets just say I was IMPRESSED. This truck got to 100 mph in no time at all(I cant even get to that in mine, or never really tried but it would take forever). I have never been in a truck that was as fast and powerful as this. Dry pavement he could spin the tires by just mashing the throttle. Got curious and timed it with my watch from 0-60 and got about 7.7 seconds. I honestly couldn't believe it. The ride was also great. Never felt a transmission shift as nicely and as smoothly as this did. Overall I am very impressed and tempted to buy one someday! I hate the looks though but I dont think I can ever get away from the mighty cummins. I would love to ride in an 04 600 and see what thats got. Also does the 600 come with an auto or haven't they made a tranny that can hold it. Why doesn't dodge go with allison?

Why do you say that? Do you think the truck might have some injector problems by then?

Try it against your Cummins with a 10,000 pound load.

Your comment about "Take another ride with him when he get 100,000 on it" seems kind of dumb. Most on these web sites don't seem to keep there trucks longer then when Cummins puts a fancy nameplate on a old engine like the 600. Everyone tripped over themselves to try and be the first geek with a new ride. I never relay understood the rationale behind it, big deal it had 550 ft/lbs before. Now they give it 600 and a slick new name and everyone wants to be the first to have one?? Any brand of aftermarket box would easily add 100 lbs to the torque level, and only cost 4-6 hundred bucks. But Dodge adds 10lbs, and they all cash in there trucks (most were probably leased anyway) and get a 600.

Longevity does not seem to be a strong point around here. Everyone talks about it, Bragg's about it, and compares others to it. But the truth is very few ever live it. So who cares what the guys truck will do with 100,000 miles on it? It is the hear and now that seems to be important to people. And hear and now the guys Chevy with a duramax diesel, will flat out eat any Dodge with it's Cummins. Will it still run in 2008 with 100,000 miles on it?? Who cares.

Don't hold back,........tell us how you really feel..........

My '99 is now approaching 65,000, and isn't even breathing hard.I hope to keep this truck and pass it on to my son many years from now.

Lighten up ,....geeeeeze.

y-not does have a point...
Although as he said, MOST "PROBABLY" don't keep their trucks for more than a couple years. It sure is comforting to know that if circumstances change, and a guy has to hold on to a truck for longer than expected, the engine is just getting broke in around the 100,000 mark.

the torque rating on the 2004 1/2 cummins engines

edited to add: the engine was redesigned for 2004 1/2 to produce 325 hp/600Lb ft of torque

I think that's exactly what dodge is thinking. I mean, thats business. I know if I was dodge I would do the exact same thing so I can't blame them.

As far as the duramax "eating" any dodge I'm not so sure about that. I can't really say because I haven't driven a newer dodge but I'm sure they would hold up pretty well. How can they not if they are the highest rating street/passenger truck for torque and horsepower?

It's all a matter of opinion I guess.

The original post is about a duramax with a box on it, buy a tst box for your new dodge and see how fast it is i have never been eaten up buy a duramax and i have had my truck over 100mph plenty of times outruning my buddys 5.0 mustang. He can beat me off the line but from 50 to 100 i wouldn't be afraid to race any duramax. But its all in what you like dodge ,chevy hopefully not ford but to each his own.

The 99 Dodge 2500 Cummins I drove last weekend has 191,000 on the clock. If it's only running half as good as it was when new.....
