Their you go, a true Cummins fan. Glad to see you USE your truck for more then just a driveway trophy. I hope you do get to reap the reward of engine longevity.
Also, you are correct, in that Dodge did just what any good business would do, Take advantage of their newest marketing strategy. They were in fact very smart, and created a market and need for a product that was very much the same, Just give it a catchy name and tout it as the most powerful truck. Everyone bit on the bait, which is good for them. I get a kick out of everyone writing in expecting the NEW 600 to be so much more different and powerful. You could not honestly tell with 10lbs of torque and a few HP, but that is all part of the "Illusion of marketing and the power of suggestion". I give Dodge and the marketing team A+ for the job, but the consumer only gets a C (it would have been less, but at least they still have a Cummins).

my 93 has 169k on the odo. she's running strong but i dunno if the rest of the truck with make it to 300k.

a lot of guys claim that the CTDs are million mile engines. i say who cares? unless you're RVing or something like that in the southern states your dodge won't last that long.

Well all except for hitting 100mph with a 4.10 rear. My truck with 4.10's and 30" tires max's at 95mph at 3400rpm and 1200 degrees. I need bigger tires and lower gears.

i'm no expert in mechanical engineering, but wouldn't lower gears and bigger tires tend to cancel eachother out?

Must be going for lower numbers ... 3.9something

Less turns of the driveshaft to turn the tire one revolution.

A hotshot hauler came into work maybe 2 weeks ago delivering a small articulated loader.

He was driving a 2001 GMC dually Duramax with manually tranny. Sharp truck, 4x4, loaded with leather.

Asked him how he liked it.

He hesitantly said it was "okay"

He had 310,000 kms (194,000 miles) and said he had replaced 19 injectors on the thing.

LITERALLY! 19 Injectors!

A good friend of mine also has a 3/4 ton with Duramax?allison. pulled his 5'ver to Alaska and back said he averaged aprox. 10.1 mpg (U.S)

Replaced alluminum heads shortly after he got back.

To each his own I guess.

Definitely not for me though.

I see a few Duramaxs around here, but I never see any pulling a trailer or a load. I see lots of powerstrokes and even more cummins pulling trailers and loaded. Chevy's been marketing their trucks, even the 2500/3500's, as car-like for at least a decade now. If I wanted a car-like ride and engine, I'd buy a car. Why make a diesel engine that has the same torque and horsepower curves as a gas motor? I too have ridden in a duramax empty. It is fast. I also rode in the same truck with around 10,000 lbs on a GN attached to it, and it did not impess. To each his own I guess, but I wanted a truck.

I wish I had spent the extra money and bought a chevy. Dad has a 02 max and it is 3 times the truck the dodge is. Yea granted the only thing we pull is a 8000 lb boat but that dmax will outpull the cummins. And another thing is you can sleep in the chevy while it is running down the road, try and do that in your dodge and you will have your head slammed against the window every time you get near a bump.

Really?

I have always heard and read that the only good Chevy was one sitting on the lot of a Dodge dealership!

I think some people have good points, but others need to keep them to themselfs. If someone like something that competes agains something you have, they should be intitled to their own opinion just as you are. I mean I know of plenty of dodge trucks that my self and many others would be considered to be junk, and most auto dodges I have saw are junk. I think some should just not try to run down something that someone else like. If you don't like it just say it looks good or has a nice radio somethink besides their all junk besides Dodge's.

My dodge has 55480 miles on it in less than 3 years. I love my truck. The only problem with the body is there's an annoying squeak in the front part of it that I can't find. Oh well.
