Just got a letter from Cummins Power Club. Warning!

I didn't solicit this letter so I did a little digging...they are a marketing/credit card group called Performance Strategies...they know nothing about diesels or trucks for that matter and they are selling memberships. My name was obviously harvested from one of the Dodge/Cummins groups I belong to so someone is selling our info...

If anyone has anymore info or can prove me wrong in my assumptions please feel free to do so...until then I'd be wary of joining this group...

Some body may be selling , but the buyer is a fool , anything that goes over the internet is avalable to anyone , do not be a fool also & think what you say on any site is yours or the site .
To prove it to your self , just Google your name .
Its also true that some sites have & are selling to larger outfits , but whats different about that and anything els ?

Here at DTR we don't sell, lend, give or share information with ANYONE except Law Enforcement Personnel on Official Business. I can not speak for any of the other forums though, and it is possible one of them may be selling your info.

I'm aware that most info is available on most of us no matter how careful we are...it's all public knowledge if you know where/how to look...

In my info I always skew some little something in a certain way...I'm still identifiable as needed for the owners here and elsewhere that it's required but in this "letter" was on of those skewed pieces of info so I can say with certainty that it's happening in a forum out there...I just wanted to give a heads up...

You can buy motor vehicle data to overlay onto a list of names/addresses. There are permissable purpose guidelines surrounding that data, and deceptive marketing like you describe IS NOT permissable. If I were you, I would contact the DMA (Direct Marketing Assn.) and complain. They are pretty stern about this sort of thing, as it reflects badly on the industry in general. You can find them at http://www.dmachoice.org/index.php

I spent 12 years in multichannel marketing and crap like this just made our jobs harder.

edit: I looked at Performance Strategies site. They are not a member of the DMA, so probably not much you can do except call them up and become a 'Screaming Delete'. Tell them if you receive another piece of their garbage, you will sue. Make them give you the info on where they got your name and the associated demographic data. You probably have a keycode or source code/reservation # on the mailpiece. It's used to track all that information.

Wondering,
Could you explain what these criteria would include?

If we receive a subpoena for information from a court of law or are served with a search warrant by a law enforcement agency. I believe that would pretty well cover it.

Has this ever happened that you know of to our site?

To my knowledge, no, but I've not been here all that long. If it has happened before you can bet the farm that Lary has the paper to back it up. He's takes this stuff very seriously.
