Talking Its a ....... GOLF!!!!

She came home today!!! I am the proud papa of a 2001 VW Golf TDI Now all my vehicles are oil burners. Little gal is pretty cute ( I know ) Little 1.9 Turbo whistling away under the hood, and its hard to miss the whistle too, sure is sweet. Ill post pics soon. So happy!!!! (and sad, had to file the big Chapter 7, turned in the 05 Pathfinder SE 4x4 to the bank on Monday, 430/m was a killer) got the Golf to please the wife (functioning A/C is a must here in the 110 zone) plus at 45 + Highway mpg and #2 cheaper than gas (for now) its way better than the 12/19 the Nissan was pulling down. Got it for 7k (I borrowed from my pops), out the door. It has 141k on the clock, but runs like a champ and no leaks. Paint, body interior are in great shape.

SWEET!!!!!!!

I love those. Cool.

"Little 1.9 turbo whistling away under the hood". Yep, that's the one!

Enjoy.

45MPG is ok, you can do better. I've got a 2000 Jetta TDI 5-spd, avg tank is 54.xx MPG driven conservatively. My record so far is on a 126 mile round trip to Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles in Pasadena, 74.8MPG there, 63.2 MPG back for a round trip of 69MPG. Great traffic (none) and I did a lot of pulse&glide from 65mph to 75mph and back. My dear wife wasn't entertained, but she was impressed by the results.

Great car, congrats! Have you been to tdiforums.com? Like us, but a with a slightly higher "holier than thou" member count. More treehuggers, too, but generally good folks and helpful.

I'd love to get my hands on a TDI.

My girlfriend does have an '84 300D Turbo Diesel Mercedes though. Cool little car.

Congrats on the new purchase. When I buy something like that, I like to get proof from the seller of when the timing belt was last done. If they can't prove it, I assume I need to do the belt right away, for piece of mind. I wouldn't dare to go past the replacement interval at all on a 1.9. Could be pretty expensive if something fails in there. Also, when you do the belt, you need to do the seals, water pump and the idler pulleys too. If any of those fail, it doesn't matter how new the belt is.

Just a heads-up.

Be sure and put the 100K timing belt kit on when you do it. Go to tdiclub and search for a guru in your area. I found one in the DFW area that did mine for a pizza and $50...of course I bought the parts. Wound up he was a computer dude who loved wrenching on these little things and just wanted to have some fun. Pretty cool.

those volksies are pretty neat, espically the tdi's I've always liked the old 1.6 turbo IDI though.

watch out for the vanes on the turbo siezing and your intake manifold becoming caked with oil and soot (thanks to egr) if you drive them hard every once in a while they seem to be okay.

These TDI's had the VE pump up until 2004 right? And thats when they went to the troublesome cam eating pump things?

Congratulations!

Ditto...forums.tdiclub.com The place for TDI info; no other place on the web has such a deep understanding of these cars!

Lots for you to learn.

I STRONGLY suggest a dieselgeek.com timing belt kit, ASAP. Cheapest insurance for TDI engine longevity!

BTW...see my signature for 'my' diesel fleet!

Enjoy the car!

Tony

I take my TDI to Wild Rose Motors in Whittier, CA, for anything more than fluid changes. The guy really knows his stuff and loves TDI's. He also owns a gorgeous 1st gen W350 CC that has too much goin' on under the hood to be believed.
