Interesting Cummins 6.7L info on Ford's Commercial Vehicle site

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...ingsession.pdf

Looks like the 6.7L is available with 750 lb-ft of torque for the F650/750 trucks. Also note the statement "Aftermarket exhaust brakes prohibited due to DPF regenerative cycle strategy"

Also, wander if the Cat C7 is using the same turbo as Cummins now?

The F650/750 requires an air defuser on the exhaust tip to mix cool air with the exhaust. I haven't noticed any defusers on the C&C's on the lots.

the 6.7 being rated at 750ft#'s says good things for those buying one, if left stock at 650ft#'s it will last a VERY long time at a power level below its design rating. just like the marine 5.9's being rated at 400+hp continuously, gives us lots of growing room in the power department.

Amazing how much continuous power you can get out of somthing when you have an "endless" supply of cold water.

Any '07 Cat engine that doesn't have twins has a VGT. Here.

Question

Why don't they put the 6.4 in?? Why use a CAT or Cummins??

Seriously, why not? Is there an inherent problem with the PSD?

It probably will have the 6.4 as an option eventually. Just like how the 6.0 was an option before, but with internationals ratings for the engines. Most of the f650's I've seen had cats or powerstrokes in them, I've seen very few with cummins.

That is interesting? I read that whole thing and saw nothing about the 6.4 being offered. Wonder why?

Ive seen very few with Powerstrokes. Everything I have seen has had a Cat or Cummins. I had a customer that had one that I sold for him a month after he bought it because he said it was the most worthless truck he had ever owned. It had a 6.0 PS.

Its probably because Ford doesn't want the commercial side of the business to be stuck with warranty issues and left on the side of the road.

As for the rest of the population that buys a 6.4L, thanks for R&D

I think anytime you put a pickup truck engine in a larger truck your asking for problems. I don't care if it's a PS, 5.9 or the Dmax. An underpowered truck works alot harder than needed, never gets the fuel milage the owner might have hoped. Why send a boy to do a man's job?

That man has it right. Not buying enough engine is false economy.

That's kinda like a 1 ton pickup with the gas V-8 in it. I test drove a few and they were some worthless cows! Or a half ton pickup with that useless 3.7L V-6. Guy came into the dealer one day with around 2000 miles on it and said it was weak, no power. Under the hood, 3.7L, I went out and test drove it and told the forman it would'nt pull a greasy string out of a hogs butt, he said, "that's normal".

Just wait until the tree huggers talk someone high up into a Hybrid I can only imagine what THAT would drive like. Well of course, one could put a 700 kW motor under a 1 ton truck's frame and fill up the GVW with Ni-Cd batteries, and I bet that truck would outpull and outstart anything ever made... but replacing the batteries would get expensive quickly

Have you ever driven the Chevy BIG block (496-8.1L) with a six speed? I drove a friends, and it seemed to do pretty well. Lots of grunt way down, and fair economy to boot. My old 454 with the NV4500 and 4.10:1 rear end wasn't a race car, but it didn't seem gutless. I just don't see a small block doing as well as either of those large block gassers. Too bad the 8.0 V-10 Dodge offered is now gone.
